Is anyone else watching on BBC 2?
I've loved him since The Jam and have seen him live a couple of times
I remember being very pissed off with him when he split The Jam and stopped being so angry but he progressed so well
I dance to all the old favourites of The Jam but love peacock suit and pebbles on a beach
Anyone else?

He's singing with Noel Gallagher now.

It's brilliant.

WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 19/06/2021 23:23

It really is. I didn't know he'd sang backing on one of their songs

I have been a fan since The Jam days, he is fantastic and still producing real music.
I was part of the Mod revival, God I miss those days.

Absolutely loving it... hard day today, another hard one tomorrow ( work) just the tonic I needed for in between!
Saw him live a very long time ago, didn't know any of his music but my husband was a fan, ive never enjoyed a concert by someone I didn't know so much...

Not really on topic... But...
my dog got her summer haircut and when I picked her up she looked like Paul Weller.
I was scared to take her home to my husband

This thread reminded me of that 🤷‍♀️

Loved his interview on the Headliner series on BBC sounds during lockdown. He comes across as so down to earth.

My relative got chatting to him at a skate park where both of their sons were skateboarding. He said PW's son was eye rolling and 'Oh my god dad, you're so embarrassing' just as much as his own son was - if Paul Weller's an embarrassing parent what hope do the rest of us have? 😄

Nat6999 · 20/06/2021 00:14

I've been a massive fan for over forty years, right from when All Mod Cons was released, followed The Jam all over the country as a teenager including Wembley & Brighton on the last tour, I even got my picture in the books written about them. Paul Weller's dad always let the kids in to the sound check in the afternoon & we always got chance for photos & autographs with the band. I wasn't totally convinced with The Style Council at the time they began, thought he had sold out, but their songs have grown on me since. He was brave going solo, the first tour he hadn't even got a record deal but he has proved anyone who doubted him totally wrong. He was so young when he wrote all of The Jam songs, they are still relevant today & haven't dated at all, he has stood by his political beliefs as well. He is one of the few British artists who have had at least one number 1 album in each decade for the last 5 decades, a record he shares with one of his heroes Paul McCartney. At 63 he isn't showing any signs of slowing down, having his own studio at Black Barn means he is able to keep on recording whenever he wants. When you hear people like Noel Gallagher & Johnny Marr saying that he is one of the greatest songwriters it means a lot to him.

Nat6999 · 20/06/2021 00:16

Bluebird21 It's Broken Stones, not pebbles on a beach.

ticolac · 20/06/2021 00:16

Have watched both shows this evening. Loved Paul Weller when I was at uni, 1994-98. Saw him at Aston Villa Leisure Centre! Wild Wood and Stanley Road are epic albums which bring back brilliant memories.

Rhiani · 20/06/2021 00:16

Love his new album too. Considering it is a lockdown album, there isn’t a hint of covid pandemic about it. Just Paul Weller, cool and focused, enjoying another creative journey. It’s so refreshing and inspiring. I like to think there’s a little bit of a nod towards Bowie in this album although he sounds original as ever.

GreenApologies · 20/06/2021 00:18

I will post more on him when I get time. Saw The Jam in concert and Paul too. Those were the days.

Leave you with this for a while. And 1983 was a long hot summer. I was working in Devon that year, amazing time. Not long back from overseas duty
