Parking ticket help

I received a parking ticket saying I had stayed too long in the car park of a retail park. I initially thought I had got the ticket as I visited the retail park twice in one day and thought the cameras had logged my two visits as one long visit. I emailed a dispute along with screenshots of text messages to prove it was two visits and not just one long visit. I then got an email saying my representations have been noted and considered and they want the name of the person driving, which is fine I am happy to give them my name

However, having looked at the letter from them again the ticket is from the week before when we did go to the retail park as a family and we stayed there ages because I am a blue badge holder and it takes quite a bit of time to get my powered wheelchair in and out the car, it took ages moving around the shops while staying socially distanced from people, I'm on medication which means I have to keep going to the bathroom which meant moving between shops to one that had a disabled toilet, my children have SEN so buying stuff for them takes ages and to be honest it was so nice to be out the house after lockdown we looked in every single shop

I don't know how best to explain all this, I don't want them to think I am lying when it was an honest mistake before and I just got the dates mixed up in my head when I originally disputed the parking ticket. I can't just leave it as the screenshots show the dates of the texts which are six days after when we overstayed the parking limit. I'm probably overthinking this, but what's the best way of correcting my earlier submission?

I've heard so many horror stories of these private parking companies and how cutthroat they are I'm worried about making things worse for myself

On the Money Saving Expert forum go to Motoring and then within it there's a sub forum for parking tickets. You can get great advice there

justchecking1 · 19/06/2021 22:16

Don't bother to explain, they really don't give a shit.

Just pay it if you can. You'll never win on appeal

Rillington · 19/06/2021 22:17

These companies don't usually care why you were there too long. It's highly unlikely they will cancel your ticket.

Are you allowed to stay longer if you are a BB holder or did you on the day you got the ticket actually stay too long?

LawnFever · 19/06/2021 22:21

If you’ve realised your appeal was actually wrong just pay the fine and move on, they don’t care why you were there too long but if you accept you were just pay it

One of the questions asked in the appeal section was if I have a blue badge so I thought it must make a difference or why ask?

We did overstay, not intentionally though. I thought you could use the car park while you were shopping in the retail park, what an expensive mistake Sad

Such a shame and so unfair, but if you did overstay then just log on and pay.

Or let them look into the mistake, I had a similar situation with a parking company recently, and made a mistake paying which lead to them not realising I’d only paid £50 when I owed £100..... they may not pick up on the mistake. And if they do, the clock stopped on the fine increasing when you put your appeal in so you haven’t got anything to lose.

That’s not entirely true. Appeal it let them decline the appeal and then take it to POPLA using information from Money Saving Expert.

I did this and the fine was dropped by the private parking company

ThePontiacBandit · 19/06/2021 23:33

I’ve appealed 3 successfully now! I used the Money saving expert framework. Key is not to say you were wrong but that the fine is disproportionate to their loss of revenue. I’ve appealed with dates receipts to show I spent money in the relevant shops and gave info (one time I was BF a hungry baby either end of my visit). Definitely appeal!

Also, try the Pepipoo website (yes, it's real)

Don't just pay it - as PP says, go on Money Saving Expert and from there, go to Resolver.co.uk - they will send off your letter to the parking people and then refer to POPLA. I have one in at the moment.

These money-grubbing 'organisations' need to be shut down.
