Disgusting litter after Scotland vs England

I genuinely wonder if this is considered acceptable then I'm not sure people should gather in large crowds.

It was the same after Glastonbury and Pride before Covid. It must take to clean up.

But didn't a bunch of their supporters get stuck in to help clear it up?

CallMeNutribullet · 19/06/2021 19:32

Unavoidable when thousands of people get together. I saw fans were litter picking afterwards though.

ufucoffee · 19/06/2021 20:26

It's not acceptable but it happens. There is no way you're going to get a load of very drunk people to pick up after themselves. It was nice to see some of the Scottish fans trying to tidy it up though.

We have a river of crap along our street - discarded takeaways and broken bottles (and there’s no excuse to say there aren’t bind because we have loads and even big recycling bins). There are a lot of hotels around here with loads of saltires flying out of windows.

Thanks, pals...

OhHolyJesus · 19/06/2021 20:33

It just have taken volunteers hours, maybe there were paid council staff, either way the mess is excessive, smashed glass everywhere.

The attitude is just so casual. Find a bin or take it home. I don't think being drunk is an excuse or the number of people being there is either.

I just despair, I don't go to large events so haven't seen anything to compare it to, but if this is the way use public places then I think something needs to change. This was outside of the football grounds, I would feel differently it is was contained and dealt with by the ground's staff.

People are so dirty nowadays.

OhHolyJesus · 19/06/2021 20:33

Same as on beaches last year. Lack of respect and the complete lack of litter bins in many places in the 70s and 80s because of IRA/INLA terrorism on the UK mainland which seemed to start a trend.

ssd · 19/06/2021 21:10

The Scottish fans helped clear it up.

NakedAttraction · 19/06/2021 21:10

It’s like that round by me literally every weekend (SW London). Bins overflowing and rubbish left everywhere. It’s not just football fans by any means.

BakedTattie · 19/06/2021 21:21

Scottish fans were pictures litter picking.

OhHolyJesus · 19/06/2021 22:03

It is a problem in general for sure but it is exacerbated when large crowds gather for an event, of any kind, not just football.

I'm pleased fans were involved with cleaning up (just the Scottish fans? I hope not.)

I suppose I don't understand the mentality of littering so find it really disgusting. Complete disregard for the locals who actually live there and have to deal with it. The same applies to PPs who experience this. It happens where I am too but nothing on this scale.

Laws on this should be stronger. It's anti-social behaviour.

Of course a royal wedding generates zero litter, but we won’t mention that !

MazDazzle · 19/06/2021 22:24

Fair point @embolass.

ineedaholidaynow · 19/06/2021 22:28

Why do people think they can just drop litter?

ssd · 19/06/2021 22:47

@ineedaholidaynow

Why do people think they can just drop litter?
Anyone in particular??
ineedaholidaynow · 19/06/2021 22:57

No just anyone @ssd.

ssd · 19/06/2021 23:00

They weren't brought up right
