My baby nephew is turning one this weekend, and I need to make a last minute dash to the shops!

I have no experience with babies so not a clue what to buy.... Help?!

Thanks so much in advance!

Think about the size of his parents house. If it has a decent size back garden maybe some outdoor toys? If the house is small I'd err on the side of clothes and a small toy. Previously we lived in a tiny one bed and any large toys would have been appreciated but there would be nowhere to put them.
1 is a hard age as they usually aren't into TV characters and mine tends to want to play with household objects rather than actual toys. He got a little toddler slide for his 1st birthday which has gone down a treat and we use it everyday. Light enough that we can bring it inside when it's raining. That might be an option for you?

Supermarkets usually have a small range of wooden toys that are nice for 1 year olds - blocks, shape sorters, wooden play food etc.
