Posting here for more traffic.

Has anyone stayed in this town? I'm looking for somewhere for a shortish break, July or August. Quite easy as to whether it's self-catering or B&B/hotel. Needs to be in Bakewell itself or easy walking distance to the town for shopping etc, as I don't drive and public transport is not great in this area.
TIA

Oh I visit often but never stay over because I’m fairly local (not walking distance though).
I don’t have any suggest but you’ll have a lovely time. It really is beautiful there 😊

Mainly I want to walk the Monsal Trail, but thought Bakewell was the best base as I'm on foot (or could possibly hire a bike...)

It's nice but very touristy and busy. As PP mentioned, the Monsal Trail is lovely to walk/cycle on. Cycle hire at Hassop.
You're right that transport links without a car aren't brilliant - how are you planning to get there?
My colleague stayed at The Rutland Arms (extremely central) at the weekend and said it was very nice.

I know Hassop Station have a couple of cottages on site (on the Monsal Trail) but imagine probably very popular!

Thank you!
Train and bus to Sheffield, then Bakewell. Once I'm there I'm there, and will be fine to just walk.
Was looking at the Hassop Station cottages. There IS some availability albeit not much.

Very jealous. Have a lovely time.

Foxesinsockses · 17/06/2021 17:28

Isn't this the place with the absolutely mad tripadvisor reviews - some hotel with a slightly - confrontational owner? I'll see if I can find it.

motogogo · 17/06/2021 17:42

Yes, stayed at a pub with rooms, the manners

firstimemamma · 17/06/2021 17:44

We stayed in Bagshaw Hall recently and it was really lovely. Would also recommend the Wheatsheaf restaurant.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 17/06/2021 18:18

Monsal Trail is lovely, v jealous Envy
Those reviews are hilarious 😂

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/06/2021 19:04

Those reviews! The guy claims no one is rude at The Peacock but calls reviewers ignorant, idiots and, my favourite, an imberseal (sic).

IntermittentParps · 17/06/2021 19:18

God, I'd forgotten about the Peacock thing Grin Luckily it's a bit £££ for me anyway.

Thanks motogogo, looks lovely.

Thanks firstimemamma, that's a great place by the looks of it.
