The girl from papa don't preach.

It was one of my favourite songs as a teenager. I though it was so romantic. As an adult I reckon the honeymoon lasted until toddler tantrums set in then poor "papa" had to do lots of babysitting while the bad boy boyfriend hung round with his buddies and she was working nights jn a supermarket

I think papa had a heart attack and died. Then little missy became a vicar

There was a thread fairly recently debating whether the 'baby' was an actual baby or her (gorgeous!) boyfriend.

If it was indeed a baby I reckon the (gorgeous!) boyfriend ran for the hills after a few months, leaving old Madonna as a single mum living with her dad.

I didn't see the other thread, how did I miss it

It's absolutely a baby. She says "my friend want me to give it up". We can raise a little family

That's how I see it too.

Here's the other thread

Ok different artist/song but speaking of interpretation, my OH said you can listen to Rod Stewart's Maggie May and interpret it as HE being the older one, not Maggie. 'Back to school' - he's a teacher, 'sun really shows your age', she's 16 etc.

I know it's the other way around but blew my mind, for about a minute 😁

How would , "Stole my Daddy's cue ... to make a living playing pool" fit in with that? Or is that a different song? I Was Just A Boy (Giving It All Away)?Where did he go?

Wake up, Maggie, I think I got somethin' to say to you
It's late September and I really should be back at school
I know I keep you amused, but I feel I'm being used
Oh, Maggie, I couldn't have tried any more
You led me away from home
Just to save you from being alone
You stole my heart and that's what really hurts

The 'he was the older one' really doesn't work unless you really get twisty with the lyrics.

On that note. I once read somewhere that "tainted love" is about a parent rejecting a gay child. Kind of makes sense jn places

Tainted Love was first released in 1964 & sang by a woman.

iklboo · 17/06/2021 21:04

Not that it would stop it being about a gay child, especially in the 60s but it was very rare fir people to come out. People don't know it's not a Soft Cell original and make stuff up Grin

@iklboo it does work if you imagine he's a teacher of maybe mid 20's to early 30's. Maggie led him away from his marital home, ran off with a student but thinks he really should go back to teaching in September ...

I know it's the other way round (Rod Stewart wrote it about an older girlfriend) but it can be thought of the other way around.... according to my OH! Everytime I hear the song I force myself to think about Rod being the 'older' teacher 😄😄😄

'Don't touch me please, I cannot stand the way you tease'?

Definitely sounds more sexual!

Yes, if you stop allowing viewings you’ll probably find him much more willing to let you move out immediately…
