Has anyone experienced this with hayfever? It’s just appeared after I’ve been rubbing that eye. It’s definitely got worse after 20 minutes or so.

This is how it started.

I have this too. I was told by a pharmacist that it was inflammation of the jelly like membrane that covers the surface of the eyeball. I bought eye drops which do help but also putting a cold compress on my eyes helps to relieve it.

Thefaceofboe · 16/06/2021 13:59

@Loopyteddy thanks, is it just from the eye being irritated?! It’s scary as the jelly looks like it’s sticking right out my eye Confused

I bave kiterally wanted to tear one of my eyes out due to hayfever. I clean with previously boiled water, use celluvisc (a lubricating eye drop for dry eyes) and otc hayfever eye drops. I also put varrier ceeam on the skin round my eyes as the gunk makes my skin sore.

There is a school of thought that if it is just one eye then it is not hayfever/allergy.

Loopyteddy · 16/06/2021 14:04

Yes I think so, from the grass or whatever is irritating it. Then rubbing your eyes makes it worse. I hold ice on my eyes which does stop me want to rip them out!
I bought some eye drops with sodium cromoglicate that the pharmacist recommended and I put it in before going outside.

Maybe, but this is the eye I’ve really been rubbing today so seems a coincidence. It seems to alternate which eye gets itchy! I’m struggling as I’m pregnant so waiting for a call back from the doctor anyway to see what I can take Sad

Yes I get that, dreadful. If I run my eyes in the evening I wake up with them glued together with the gloop Sad

I put teabags in icy water and then apply them to my eyes to take the swelling down. It's just the reaction to the rubbing, it'll go. When they're a bit better I rub some Vaseline around the skin which seems to help it repair a bit more.

Loopyteddy · 16/06/2021 14:22

In that case it is probably best to speak to the GP. Hope it calms down soon for you

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 14:23

I have the same. Have you got antihistamine eye drops? They help a lot .

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 14:23

Mine is just one eye too weirdly, hayfever is an odd thing.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 14:27

A cold compress helps and DO NOT RUB

mogtheexcellent · 16/06/2021 14:30

I've had this before. It goes down. I'm suffering with my eyes today and using the optrex hayfever eyes has stopped it.

Thefaceofboe · 16/06/2021 14:31

DO NOT RUB

I’m trying Grin

Get the antihistamine eye drops, they are great normally ,today is very bad though with the pollen count. You can get them on Amazon if you can't get to the chemist.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 14:37

And wear sunglasses when you go out.

GetTheStartyParted · 16/06/2021 16:02

My DS and DD are really suffering with their hayfever, they both get this in their eyes. The first time really worried me.

They take tablets, nasal spray and eye drops. DD got some of the face wipes for hayfever around 2 days ago and she looks so much better since using them.

Hope you feel better soon Flowers

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/06/2021 17:06

What are the face wipes please?

Icantfindanewname · 16/06/2021 17:09

Me too today. I was on the chemist doorstep as it opened to buy sodium cromoglicate. Oh, the relief!

baldafrique · 16/06/2021 17:10

Normal with my hayfever. Its horrific. Fexofenadine 180mg helps a little.

GetTheStartyParted · 16/06/2021 17:55

These are the face wipes.

DS also says they help, though his hasn't improved quite as much - he's only 12 though so more likely to be rubbing his eyes and spending time around grass fields.
