We're going to be grandparents!

Light-hearted
Dsd and her husband have just called round to give us the news! We're thrilled for them but in total shock! How are we old enough to be grandparents? (We're only 43 and 51!) How did this happen?!! How did we go from being twenty somethings in young love to grandparents in the blink of an eye??
Dsd has been in my life since she was 3 (she's 26 now) and said she wants me to be grandma (or Nana or Nan or whatever I choose). Her own mum will absolutely not object and will be pleased that she's asked me. I'm very touched (if a little freaked out by the thought!)
I'm going to pour a little vodka...

Thank you! I thinkGrin I think I'm in shock...

Congratulations!
I can’t imagine that though, DH and I are 43 and 48 and our DD isn’t yet 2! Poles apart.

Congratulations! How lovely!

Oh gosh I feel you re age, you're 4 years older than me bad my eldest is 6 🤣 but massive congratulations. Be glad you're so young - you can run around after toddler DGC and still be around to see them grow up. I'm sad to think if eldest had kids at that age I'll be 59 and for younger ones I'll be 64

stuckinarutatwork · 15/06/2021 23:03

Ah yes, enjoy. My DMum has just found out she'll be a granny again - she's 75. Sad to think that it's quite likely that she won't see this grandchild to adulthood.

I've just said something similar to dh. My Mil will be a great grandparent at 68 (she was a very young mum) and her sister who is 2 years younger isn't even a grandparent yet!

Ah we will! Dgc will also be much loved and doted on by his/her 3 uncles from us and his auntie and uncle on dsd's mum's side. Not sure how my 10 year old is going to feel about being an uncle! (I suspect he'll be amused😂)

My dsis was an aunt age 2 to my ds. As she's 20 years younger than me.
My dm was a GP at 42.

DinosApple · 15/06/2021 23:26

Ah that's so lovely OP, congratulations! You're lucky to be so young!

Mil was 80 when our eldest was born - the same age as my grandma. That was Mil's first grandchild, but my grandma's 8th great grandchild. Funny how life works out though. Mil was absolutely besotted with the DC though.

MintyJulip · 15/06/2021 23:31

Congratulations! My mum and dad became grandparents at 46 when I had my DD.
I'm now late 50's and no sign of any grandchildren for me!
My parents loved being GP so young, they once took all 6 GC on holiday, ages ranged from 5-10
Embrace it and enjoy!Flowers

Eek! I'm not sure I'm ready for that...I'm looking forward to some child free holidays first! I've got at least another 7 or 8 years before my youngest won't be coming with us!🙈🤣

Congratulations to you both. I did not have a young Nana but at 75 she decided life was too short and decided she was going to gatecrash her grandchildren night out rather than her sensible kids dinner party. We were between 19 and 25. I honestly can say it was one of the best nights our lives. Be the cool Nana!
