There is a nightingale singing - loudly- in my garden!

It is singing its little heart out in a big oak tree. I heard it last week but couldn’t really believe it and now it is back! I think it is being answered by another one quite far away in the woods.
I’m in Oxfordshire. Been here 10+ years - never heard it before. ❤️❤️❤️

I just remembered- two yellow wagtails live above the platform of Victoria station!!

I think these are just photos but I have a lovely video of him chirping away too. He has to be loud over the trains and announcements.

Please ignore the first image from where I was watching the Eurovision semi finals Blush

There was a red kite flying over my garden earlier and making a hell of a racket. They have a very distinctive call.

Cocolapew · 16/06/2021 18:26

Magpie's are hooligans!

PainterInPeril · 16/06/2021 18:55

@Cocolapew Really? I've never seen them hooliganising (new wordGrin). Gulls go round mugging people, what do magpies do?

GuyFawkesDay · 16/06/2021 19:01

Currently my garden is a cacophony of baby starlings and sparrows squabbling over the feeders. I have a lovely blackbird who sings on the arial next door. Beautiful at night....less so at 4am. Skylarks aplenty, cuckoo earlier in the year, wrens, robins and others. Definitely have warblers of some description. Never heard a nightingale though.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 16/06/2021 19:09

Magpies pillage nests and eat the chicks.

The ones hear her I’ve made friends with, and I feed them meat to try and stop them pillaging said nests. For the most part it works as we’ve got a few fledglings more then we had last year.

Cocolapew · 16/06/2021 19:26

The magpies, we have 4, hooliganise the other birds. They're bullies.

Ah thank you, I can't seem to work that on my phone but I'm there in my head! I have heard cuckoo and curlew from my town centre house this week which were lush.

Delphigirl · 17/06/2021 21:38
