London Afternoon Tea

I’m looking for somewhere for a special birthday afternoon tea in December.

We’ve done the Dorchester before. Loved it but want to try somewhere else. Don’t fancy the Ritz. Have also done Fortnum and Mason. Would prefer a hotel type setting. Any recommendations?

The Savoy is absolutely lovely, and gorgeous setting!

Pedallleur · 15/06/2021 21:42

The Goring, Claridges, prob other 5* hotels. Savoy is a good one. Have their own chocolatier. Mad prices imo but that's me who paid stupid money in another life.

Frownette · 15/06/2021 21:53

I'd say Savoy

Rosewood!

Another vote for Claridges. Brown's hotel is also very good for a traditional afternoon tea.

My favourite is The Library at The Marriott County Hall. Ask for a window table and you have a wonderful view of the river, Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament - all lit up in the evening which looks lovely.

Browns is my favourite, I’m not a fan of boring sandwiches and they have a really nice mix. It’s understated, but still special.

funtimefrank · 15/06/2021 22:22

Claridges every time. I still fantasise about the scones and bramble jam I had a decade ago.

I was about to say but it gets dark so late, then realised OP had put December :)

The Langham or Ting at The Shard.
Very different settings but equally enjoyable.

AuldFox · 15/06/2021 22:34

My vote goes to claridges

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 15/06/2021 22:35

We had a lovely and very memorable tea at the Langham but it's a lot of years ago now. The setting was really pretty in the Palm Court and the service and the food were wonderful. We felt really pampered. It was for a special birthday for my Nana and it's a lovely memory to have had with her.

RaskolnikovsGarret · 15/06/2021 22:39

Would have said Claridge’s, but it has now been eclipsed in my view by the Lanesborough. Amazing.

TeamNegan · 15/06/2021 22:50

I’ve always loved the Atheneum! It’s a lovely tea room attached to the hotel, and you get two rounds of sandwiches included so that’s always a win from me Grin I haven’t been in a couple of years but I’d hope it was still the same.

Verite1 · 15/06/2021 23:41

Def Claridges. No question.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 15/06/2021 23:42

The Sanderson one is really good.

highlandcoo · 15/06/2021 23:57

Browns fan here too but make sure it's the one in Albemarle Street. Generous replenishing whereas some of the bigger hotels are a bit mean I find.

Gooseysgirl · 16/06/2021 00:02

Another Browns fan here - been quite a few times, also loved the Langham.

extravirginoliveoil · 16/06/2021 07:15

Fantastic. Thanks all. Will definitely look at your suggestions.
