Sofa companies that don’t take 3 months plus to deliver?!

Youngatheart00 · 15/06/2021 21:24

We’re just about to move to a new home and our old sofa is rather worse for wear and won’t fit the style of the new house so we’ve arranged for the council to pick it up.

Looking at new options, most places seem to be 12-16 weeks for delivery (one place estimated October 😫)

Any recommendations and personal experiences for good quality sofa / chairs that have a much shorter lead time?

Next

TheSunShinesBright · 15/06/2021 21:28

Ordinary sofas at reasonable prices. Some with 5 day delivery.

You say ‘good quality’ Do you mean expensive? Next sofas are fine. We have 3 and they look as new after 3 years.

Have you looked at IKEA?

Charity shop?

GappyValley · 15/06/2021 21:30

Sofa.com are great quality and have some for immediate delivery

Made.com not as good but still better than Next etc. Also has some stock for immediate delivery

Youngatheart00 · 15/06/2021 21:30

Are Ordinary sofas a brand? I’ve not heard of them.

We’d definitely consider Next

Had a look at Swoon and Loaf and they are suggesting many months waits. And then looked at DFS and 16 weeks for the one we liked too

I understand why, as they obviously build to demand but as a consumer it’s very annoying

Hate to break it to you though. 16 weeks is October.

Youngatheart00 · 15/06/2021 21:32

@AfternoonToffee I think charity shop might need be a good idea for the interim - from memory British Heart Foundation do furniture? I suppose I could re-donate it when a new one arrived.

Definitely charity or thrift find and have it reupholstered. Saves on time and landfill.

Newnormal99 · 15/06/2021 21:33

You might get lucky with habitat. I had one quickly from them.

DanglingMod · 15/06/2021 21:34

John Lewis have absolutely loads available for 7 day delivery. They're just in more obvious colours, like greys and beiges.

Just choose what size you want and then filter by "7 day delivery" on the website.

XiXiXi · 15/06/2021 21:35

Look on eBay, not necessarily secondhand- lots of overstock/bankrupt stock/seconds etc sold as new.

Treasured · 15/06/2021 21:35

Another vote for Next… we had our sofa within 4 days when we ordered

banjaxxed · 15/06/2021 21:36

Next.

TheOnlyPurpleLlama · 15/06/2021 21:37

Swyft do next day delivery - our neighbours ordered one a few weeks ago and are very happy with it

Sorry no! My two posts go together. I was describing Next sofas as ‘ordinary sofas’.

If you want the likes of Swoon and Loaf you would expect a longer wait as their production line probably isn’t as big as other companies.

We looked at them too and honestly thought they were fur coat and no knickers companies. Not worth the price. My SIL has a loaf sofa and it was a saggy mess after a few months. She’s currently ‘in discussion’ with them...

Hax · 15/06/2021 21:38

You might be lucky on Gumtree, especially if you look at higher priced nearly new.
I just bought two almost new cream leather sofas for my conservatory.

MamaWeasel · 15/06/2021 21:40

IKEA?

Itsanewdayforme · 15/06/2021 21:40

Avoid Made !!! They are very misleading about their delivery dates which slip and slip with no communication or explanation.
Check out twitter to see all of the unhappy customers still waiting for their sofas Shock

V stressful experience!

JLewis is a good shout.

Companies often have basic colours available straight away but for fancier ones you need to wait. We’ve got a nice recliner sofa from Oak furniture land, it was delivered quite quickly The choice of colours was limited (in comparison with DFS) but tbh I liked it anyway.

ConsuelaHammock · 15/06/2021 21:45

I’d have a look at Alstons sofas. If the wait is long, I’d keep the one you have and use throws for a while .

Youngatheart00 · 15/06/2021 21:51

Thanks very much for the thoughts and advice

I’ve heard similar re Made which has made me nervous.

Also online only retailers…. Maybe I’m old fashioned but I have a whole complex about spending thousands buying a sofa I’ve not been able to touch and sit on! Seems to be the way the market is going though.

Will head to a large-ish JL and Next this weekend and see what’s what.

Old sofa already booked to be taken away but suppose that could be cancelled, we don’t want to be sat on the floor for months!
