Could she forward the text on to you and you do it from your smartphone?

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 15/06/2021 18:54

Just use a laptop and click call me back. They'll just ring her.

Me either.

What's the purpose of the text?

Elderflower14 · 15/06/2021 21:34

Nor me... What was the link for?

ChatterMonkey · 15/06/2021 21:35

Ive had this before. Tried to log into my prime account on dps phone as mine was out of battery, only to be told that i needed to confirm on my phone that i authorised the log in. Makes sense for security i suppose but was very impractical and didnt seem to be any other way of continuing with the log in without having access to my phone.

LIZS · 15/06/2021 21:38

Dm would never cope with that. The only time we've had to verify is when we misinput the password.

cateycloggs · 15/06/2021 21:43

What happened with me is I had to reset my computer and lost a number of my saved passwords/log ins. When I went back to Amazon I could not remember mine as it had been so long. In order to reset a new password you have to go through a 2 step process of being sent a one time code by email first then another code is sent to your phone. Unfortunately it assumes a smart phone and being able to tap the link to confirm. I had to phone customer services and go through the whole thing several times as they could not believe I do not have a smartphone (they were more polite than that but that is the upshot).

They eventually confirmed by email and I thought it was sorted but when I actually tried to make a purchase I was directed to go through the double check process again and they sent the tappable link to my mobile. I have not been bothered to go through it all again so would appreciate a shortcut.

cateycloggs · 15/06/2021 21:57

General apologies to anyone who may have been worried about my last post. I thought I should check as it had been some weeks since my problem. It turns out the website did recognise my password and allowed me to purchase the item with no further check which is a relief as I had to use the bathroom in the dark the last 3 weeks.

So I don't know what happened before seems I maligned Amazon and its processess. The CS people were very polite and long suffering when I had to deal with them previously.

This is 2FA
It means double authentication and was introduced (far too late) to try and prevent fraud.
It is a pain in the neck and not terrible effective.
