Renewing an Australian Passport in the UK

Sorry, didn't know where to put this so posting here for traffic.

I have an expired Aussie passport in my maiden name.

I want to renew it but the options on the website are either that I have a passport that expired in the last 3 years (it was longer ago than that) or that I need an Australian birth certificate or proof of citizenship. I have neither, only my Mum's birth certificate.

I'm going round in circles, can anyone advise?

Were you born in Australia?

Have you checked out the latest info on the Australian Embassy passport page?

uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/PassportsWelcomePage.html

You might need to book an appointment to get your passport sorted, but you can call the embassy on 02073794334 to double check.

Sounds like you're applying for a passport via the citizen by descent route. You'll need your birth certificate, and proof of your mum's citizenship - and you have her birt certificate, which counts.

"How do I prove citizenship by descent?

If you were born in Australia on or after 20 August 1986 and one of your parents was an Australian citizen on the day you were born, then you can prove your citizenship by showing us your own full birth certificate and:

your parent's full birth certificate that shows your parent was born in Australia before 20 August 1986, or
your parent's Australian passport issued on or after 20 August 1986 that was valid for at least two years and issued before you were born, or
your parent's Australian citizenship certificate that shows they acquired citizenship before you were born."
