Can we have a brand new spooky thread?

Inspired by the thread about places that creep people out, I wondered if we could have a spooky experience thread or just unexplained happenings?

I know there are historical threads about this type of thing but thought it could be time for a fresh one.

I personally have never seen a ghost but I've had uneasy feelings in places and my grandparents swore blind they had a ghost cat in their house. I also have a family member who woke up in a barn whilst working on a farm and screamed his head off because there was an old craggy lady looming over him grimacing.

(And all those desperate to tell us ghosts aren't real, it's all hallucinations etc etc we see you, we hear you but you don't need to tell us.)

I’m going back a few years but I had an ex who lived in hull
We’d gone shopping and my lads really needed a wee so I stood outside the gents while they went in
A few minutes later they both came running out, white as sheets and really shaken
They both swore blind that they’d gone into the stalls and both came out at the same time
They both said it had gone really cold and an ‘old fashioned’ solider,on crutches with a leg missing had appeared in the corner
He smiled and faded away
We did a bit of digging and the shopping mall was a hospital in the 2nd world war

I was in the George pub on a night out a few months later when a hand grabbed me from behind and threw me across the pub
There was nobody that could have got in behind me-my arse was touching the wall

The next day I took the kids to the black boy pub (his mother worked there)
It was a really bright hot day but almost black inside at the bar
One of the kids tugged on my sleeve
‘Mum,why is there a pirate standing there?’
All 7 of us saw it just standing looking back at us
I’ve never got out of a pub so fast in my life
We stood outside just looking at each other ‘did you see what I saw?’
The landlord came out-‘oh I see you’ve seen him then?’

We moved to the midlands a few years ago (my eldest kids stayed in my hometown up north)
I was standing in my kitchen just daydreaming when I saw a white staffie with unusual brindle markings on its back and ear,run through one side of my garden across the grass and through the fence
I went to check and nothing there/no damage done to the fence
I put it down to being tired and thought nothing of it
Anyway about a week later my son rang to say he’d seen a dog on a rescue site and was on his way to buy him
I got a picture of him the next day
It was exactly the same dog that had run through my garden

My daughter would have been about 9/10 and was asleep in bed
She woke up to a man in her bedroom-she screamed blue murder (rightly so!)
I managed to get her into my bed for the rest of the night and put it down to a nightmare
The next day she told me all about him
She described my grandad-she’d never seen a picture of him nor met him as he died 5 years before she was born
Right down to his ‘silver not grey hair’ ‘something wrong with his left eye’ (he was blind in that eye’ and ‘a weird lump on his finger instead of a finger nail’ (accident at work years before)

One of my dads old houses was haunted. We often saw someone walking along the upstairs landing. Even on the day we moved in I was sat on the floor in my new bedroom putting stuff into the wardrobe and saw someone speed past my open door. I was home alone as everyone had gone back to load up the van from the old house again.

There were big built in wardrobes with sliding mirror doors. We would hear them slamming open and shut. Detached house so no neighbours with the same wardrobes.

Most of the activity was in the kitchen. It was a long galley, a door either end and a very 70s serving hatch in the middle. Frequently as you went in one door you would see someone going the opposite way through the other. We used to in and out with our eyes shut.

My brothers girlfriend refused to use the bathroom on her own, and me and my sister avoided ever being home alone. My dad was in complete denial and thought we were all joking or going paranoid. One night we were all sat in the living room, one of the kitchen doors slammed shut and we saw someone walk past the serving hatch. The next day he went to the spiritualist church to find someone to bless the house and he put it straight on the market.

It was a horrible house. Dispite huge windows one side and French doors the other and being painted magnolia it was always dark and gloomy. The atmosphere was awful.

@Lansonmaid

We live in an old farmhouse, one of the servants (teenage girl) was murdered by her lover in the 1840s. My son looked up one Christmas when he was unwrapping his presents and said that someone had just walked through the front door, got to the foot of the stairs and vanished. He said he saw a white figure sitting on the window seat in the girls old bedroom looking out over the moor. My husband heard a girls voice from the kitchen when myself and the children were out, and our kids didn’t like playing in the playroom (where the girls body was laid out after her discovery on the moor) as they always felt they were being watched. Is that spooky enough?
That's a brilliant (and terrifying) tale. Thanks for sharing!

As I said before I've never SEEN anything but I used to work in a restaurant with a murky past. The building was situated on an old hanging site and I really hated having to go up to the store room. The atmosphere just changed in there and I could t get out quick enough!!

Also I have a 'friend' on Facebook who I've not actually met but we admin a group together. She called me to ask if I had any news, I said no.
Later that day I got engaged and put it in this group and she called again saying why didn't I tell her...she knew anyway because she'd dreamed it the night before but it was news to me!

@AutistGoth

I did nominate the strange vibe place thread for classics. Not sure if MN will give it a new home, though. There is a part two of that thread, so don't forget to check that out. Smile

Will share my own (not necessarily spooky, but very heartwarming) experience in a bit.

Yes I enjoyed that thread a lot - as that one was just for places I thought I'd extend to all things eerie!

I've only had a few minor things but I do like these threads.

One thing which springs to mind - as a child/teen I used to sometimes feel like someone was standing over my bed. Quite unnerving.

My story.

Around six months before I married my DH, I had a very vivid dream. In the dream, an ex of mine had come to my house to tell me that DH didn't love me and that I shouldn't marry him. I remember feeling so sad and bereft in this dream. Anyway, I wandered off and after a while, I met my late grandad, who I was very close to when he was alive. He was wearing his green anorak and flat cap - I remember it so well.

Anyway, DGF looked so concerned for me. He asked why was I crying and I told him about the situation, my then fiancé and my ex. DGF replied to me in his distinctive regional accent: "You don't want to take no notice of 'im, luv. He's just jealous!" - referring to my ex.

I woke up feeling extremely happy, for some reason. I can't explain any better than that. A euphoric feeling. Not really spooky, I know, but I like to think that it was my DGF's message from beyond the grave telling me that he approved of the husband I had chosen and knew we'd be happy together. Ten years on, and we are! Smile

Not my experience but I will explain. MIL was living in a nursing home after having a stroke, one Sunday morning while at rugby with DS, DH had a phone call that his DM was unwell and being taken to A&E by ambulance. DH went straight to hospital and I joined him later. Tests were being done on MIL and we are told she was being take for a scan, we popped home (10 mins from hospital) to grab a bite to eat etc as soon ad we arrived home we had a phone call to get back to the hospital. We were with MIL when she passed at 6pm. BIL went to the nursing home the next day to collect MIL’s belongings and one of the nurses said that at 6pm the previous day she was outside MIL’s room and heard her calling for FIL who had passed 2 years earlier, the nurse was aware that MIL had been sent to hospital earlier that day but genuinely thought that she had been brought back until she entered the empty room.

Thanks for the replies, I don't know why I like spooking myself so much!
If anyone else has any stories I'd love to hear them!

I love a good spooky thread!

BorderlineHappy · 16/06/2021 13:55

I have loads.
First time I remember it starting I was about 3.
Looked out on my road ( there's a big green between my side and the other houses)
And on the green where a bunch of women and men dressed Victorian.

Then I had people getting in to bed with me and me turning around and there's no one there.

LoveMySituation · 16/06/2021 14:37

It's not particularly spooky, just weird. Years ago, when I was a teenager, I stayed overnight at a friend's house, very close to the site of the battle of Tewkesbury. I'd stayed overnight before, but always upstairs. Always completely fine. This time I was downstairs, and was uncomfortable and unsettled while trying to get to sleep, when I eventually did, I slept fitfully, and all night had a recurring dream of a black bear standing over me as I slept. Lived in Tewkesbury for years, never had it before or since.

Love hearing these stories. Please keep them coming or if anyone knows any other threads I can read..☺️

LoveMySituation · 16/06/2021 21:41

Xsjrx do you know there's a unexplained board? Plenty of stuff in there to keep you goingGrin

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 16/06/2021 21:55

When my grandma was in hospital years ago after having had a heart attack she said my grandad had come for her and sat on the bed and told her he was waiting for her. She even described the suit he was wearing.

She also said that a little man in a green suit had been to visit her.

She died a few days later, she had another, more severe heart attack. My mum was really comforted by the thought that her dad had come back for her mum.

What was quite spooky was that the nurse said that lots of people had mentioned a little man in a green suit coming to visit them before they’d died but the nurses had never seen anyone like that in the wards.

It was a very old hospital, it had been built after the first world war so probably seen it’s fair share of death.

xsjrx · 16/06/2021 22:20

@LoveMySituation no I didn't! You've made my night!!😃

My mum lived in a really haunted horrible flat in Balham south London, when I was a baby.
Her and my dad couldn't afford to move and was stuck there.
These are some of things she's described happening.
•if she was watching the tv the tv would go on mute and the radio would come on at full blast.
•if she was listening to the radio, it would go off and the tv would come on full blast.
•if any one lit a cigarette it would burn backwards and burn your fingers every single time.
•she had full mirrored wardrobes and one night in bed, she looked up and saw the reflection of a man with a cowboy hat on staring at her watching her.
•my dad was in bed once and heard my mum get into bed and heard someone let out a sigh when he turned around to give my mum a cuddle nothing was there and the space was ice cold.
•my dad "tripped" over nothin in the hallway and heard a man say OUCH.
There was other things as well I can't remember but I know she said the flat was always cold no matter how much heating she would use, and I'd never sleep I only started sleeping through the night my brother was born and we moved house.
She also said knives would bang on the draining board only ever knives they'd go up like someone was using them and bang like someone was chopping!

LoveMySituation · 17/06/2021 12:41

Xsjrx and Puffin, you're both welcomeSmile while I remember, my mum's partner died twenty odd years ago, I moved back in to her house with her for a while afterwards where they'd lived together, and the landing light started to go on and off, as would the tv in the bedroom next to the landing(it would sometimes stay off for ages, particularly if it was something I really wanted to watch!) Everytime, mum would go 'Hi..' and if the tv turned off, and she wasn't there, I'd ring her and she'd ask for it to be turned on againGrinIt usually worked! Sounds mad, but she always knew it was him, showing he was still around us.

There was no fault, it faded away eventually and when she died and I sold the house, the next woman(who was a friend and had the same first name as me) never had anything happen. Her bloke was an electrician anywayGrin
