Cats and Sofa scratching

We need a new sofa or 2. Ours are 20 years old, and upholstery is very tired, and stained (the cover for one of the sear pads has shrunk and ripped and that pad is wrapped in a kids duvet cover) and the seat pads are beginning to collapse.

We also have a cat. Try as we might to stop her, she loves nothing better that to stretch her legs out and scratch down one of the sofa legs, which is now ripped to shreds,

I'm a bit reuctant to buy a new sofa for the cat to ruin! Has anyone got any methods to stop this?

(We have also looked at the cost of getting them recovered and resifted, which was around 1.5 -2 times the cost of new ones).

TALL scratching post most of them are too small cats need a big stretch, does your cat like catnip?

My cats is not very big and has had several scratching posts of various sizes, which she has shown no interest at all. Not sure where she stands on catnip.

Try catnip if she likes it you can redirect the clawing onto something else

I'm assuming you have tried the behave sprays and water deterrent to break the behaviour
