I’ve moved home recently and have this space in one of the living/ sitting rooms. It’s too big to be alcove and be shelved. If you put a couch or chair in it it would be too out of the way of the rest of the room. A snug? No need for a desk or home office. Any ideas what function I can give it? It’s currently the storer of the unpacked boxes which isn’t ideal!Inspire me please?

Bed for a rescue greyhound Grin

I'd build a full-depth platform (old pallets) about 4ft high, with storage cupboards beneath. (big enough for suitcases, hiding xmas presents, etc) On top of the platform I'd get a foam mattress made to size and upholstered in mice material. On the back wall, I'd have bookshelves 1 ft deep, from just above the mattress right to the ceiling and put a reading light on one of them.

Then I'd toss a sheepskin and some cushions on the mattress and use it as a lounging/reading/ relaxing space.

EverNapping that space would have to be turned on it's side to fit a greyhound in!!

I’m just pondering the mice material… Tom and Jerry? Mickey Mouse? Of Mice and Men?

Grin I love a good typo Flowers

Reading nook. Comfy chair and bookshelves

Ah but the beauty of greyhounds is they adapt to fit the container Grin. Steal the smallest dog's bed and hog the whole of the human's bed. And softly pass wind in both.
Firsttimecatlady · 14/06/2021 19:38

@LittleBlackCat22

I’d turn it into a chokey for the children .
Amidst all the reading nooks and crafting corners, this actually made me snort laugh! Perfect... Grin

A sit-in. A space where you can sit, think, meditate, do nothing at all.

LaurieFairyCake · 14/06/2021 19:41

100% bar

Then you'll be properly ready for the next lockdown Grin

FuckyDoodleDoo · 14/06/2021 19:48

A hanging bubble chair

itsgettingwierd · 14/06/2021 19:52

I was thinking I'd Chuck a bean bag in there and hide with my kindle!

Seems lots of people are thinking the same re reading area.

Bluntness100 · 14/06/2021 19:55

@SprayedWithDettol

This looks fab.
Do this, that’s gorgeous.
Reallyreallyborednow · 14/06/2021 19:55

Need a floor plan!

Is it near the kitchen? Can it be turned into a pantry?

SleepingStandingUp · 14/06/2021 21:35

Omg this, a million times this
MrsRockAndRoll · 14/06/2021 21:44

@CrumpetsForAll

I’d put mirrors on the floor, ceiling and all the walls then train some bright spotlights on it and refuse to be drawn on what it’s for
Winning suggestion from @CrumpetsForAll
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/06/2021 21:45

What about a giant show pineapple? On a plinth?

CatRatSplat · 14/06/2021 21:48

A work out area? What kind of things are you into? I would make it a craft station Grin

FlamingGoat · 14/06/2021 21:53

A huge parrot cage 🦜

Cowbells · 14/06/2021 22:04

Either floor to ceiling bookcase and a cosy chair and reading lamp as PP suggested. Or I'd build a deep desk with a pinboard and shelves above it and turn it into a mini office space. I love nooks like that.

Cowbells · 14/06/2021 22:05

A huge parrot cage 🦜
Or this, of course.

Winner!
DespairingHomeowner · 14/06/2021 22:38

If you’ve recently moved, I’d keep it empty for a while

  • as a place to stash stuff if having any work done in other rooms
  • eventually you will work out what function will be most useful in your home

Like idea of a workout space , bar, reading nook... I’d probably put a door on and uses as storage OR platform for storage and chill out space on top

Is it big enough for a play/toy space if you have small kids?

ThatOtherPoster · 14/06/2021 22:45

Do a Modern Family and turn it into a gift-wrapping station.
