Electric Car - Home Charging Point

HCHQ · 14/06/2021 11:17

I can't find a "Motoring/Car" page so here I am ....

Has anyone had an electric charging point installed at home? Could I be cheeky and ask how much it cost?

Thanks.

We recently (last week) had a quote and it was 850. But we've since decided to get a new hybrid charging car and so don't need the charging point.

Had ours fitted about 3 months ago. All in, including fitting, coat around £1k.

Cost not coat

I think it depends on the type of charger or connection. A friend of mine had one put in pre-pandemic, it was around £1,000 although I seem to recall he got a £500 grant to help. (I believe the government has cut the grant amount to a max of £350 now.) You can only claim the grant once -- so if you move house you'd have to pay the full whack for a new charging set-up to be installed (if the house doesn't already have one).

Sometimes I think you can get a charger and installation thrown in as part of a deal on a new car (not a given; would depend on how you bought/leased it, the value of the car, how desperate they were for the sale, other factors etc).

There’s a grant to pay towards a charger being fitted, though some dealers will offer a free one.

Thanks everyone! I'm renovating the house & thought this might be a plus point when it comes to selling ...
