Just watching the news all about G7, lots of shots of St Ives that looks like it could be abroad it is so utterly gorgeous!
I’ve never been to that neck of the woods, but my goodness, no wonder people say that Blackpool is a hole, when you compare the two!
I expect it’s an absolute fortune to visit for a holiday. But would absolutely love to go there.
Any one been? Was it a fortune?

absolutely not sure why you’re being rude to me - if you’re local you’ll know the shenanigans which went on about the chopping down of a really beautiful small woodland - it’s caused a lot of anger locally. If you agreed with it that’s fine, and I won’t be rude to you.

The reason I mentioned the cost of cleaning etc is because the high costs partly explains why the accommodation cost are so high.

It’s not really a thread about the pros/cons of second home ownership. Fwiw mines a business, not a second home, and without such holiday accommodation, these tourists would have nowhere to stay. It does make me laugh when locals get snarky about owners of property lets. It suggests they never, ever go on holiday themselves and therefore never stay in a holiday let owned business somebody who isn’t ‘local.’

Agree entirely re Carbis Bay hotel. Was much nicer in the past when you could park by the railway arches and have a simple chilled out afternoon. Also don’t know how the town is going to cope with influx of day trippers. There are only so many parking spaces and seats on trains, it’s really unpleasant when it’s rammed.

At ives is lovely but far too busy and overrated.
There are so many other beautiful places in Cornwall, I don’t get the fuss about it.
We used to make a day trip there but don’t bother anymore. Same for Psfstowe.

Padstowe

Oh stupid typing.
Padstow.

Have been many times; we always stay on the Porthmeor side of town and completely avoid the high street etc during the day, it’s the stuff of nightmares. We spend all day on the beach, potter around a bit, do the art stuff, spend a day at Gwithian; it’s heaven.

I’d never go as a daytripper: early mornings and evenings on the beach are amazing. We’ve often sat on the beach at the end of the day with a glass of wine and watching dolphins, it’s so relaxed and beautiful. DH and the kids have swum at moonlight on occasion.

Many Cornish don't go on holiday! But yes I get your point. I converted the barn next to my house on our land as a holiday let. (It's fully booked this summer even tho we don't have a sea view and aren't a honeypot location). We couldn't get permission for a permanent home! At least that money stays in the county so to speak. But I must admit it still sometimes feels a bit like dirty money.

See, I don't think it's overrated at all, and I've spent a fair bit of time elsewhere in Cornwall staying with friends who lived there. I think it's gorgeous the setting is beautiful, the light is wonderful, the town is insanely pretty, and having all those beaches right in the town is wonderfully freeing when you have a small child and are largely pottering, surfing etc to the point where even in summer it's 'worth' the crowds. Having said that, I've never been there between mid-June and late September, and I can quite believe that in high season the crowds are too much.

We used to stay at the Sail Lofts apartments on Porthmeor Rd, which had a private car park on Beach Road -- you could park briefly outside the apartments to unload, but then had to keep the car in the car park which was about a ten-minute walk from the apartments, but did mean you could get out of town without getting stuck into the tiny, clogged, winding streets.

It’s lovely first thing in the morning. Our place has a stunning sea view, we can see the sunrise if we shift our arses out of bed early enough.

Fully booked all summer, I’ll go when it calms down!

Gwithian has been rammed last year and this year. Car park inaccessible due to volume of traffic. Saw two guys fighting.
