Just watching the news all about G7, lots of shots of St Ives that looks like it could be abroad it is so utterly gorgeous!
I’ve never been to that neck of the woods, but my goodness, no wonder people say that Blackpool is a hole, when you compare the two!
I expect it’s an absolute fortune to visit for a holiday. But would absolutely love to go there.
Any one been? Was it a fortune?

It’s absolutely stunning but quite hard to book decent accommodation last minute.

Expensive to stay in st Ives, bit cheaper to stay in carbis bay (not much there apart from the beach, have to rely on public transport to get into st Ives because parking in st Ives is hard).

Five amazing beaches, brilliant restaurants, cute little shops.

If you do stay there, you really need a property with a parking space.

mum2jakie · 13/06/2021 17:48

Works out cheaper to stay in Penzance and travel to St Ives which isn't too far away

cricketmum84 · 13/06/2021 17:50

It really is beautiful, we stayed at a haven site nearby but had a couple of day trips to St Ives. It made me realise that it is entirely possible to fall in love with a place!

Malteser71 · 13/06/2021 17:51

Ticket mum is right. It does absolutely captivate you. I haven’t seen any coverage in the last few days that does justice to how beautiful it is in real life.

KihoBebiluPute · 13/06/2021 17:54

It is absolutely amazing yes. A perfect place for holidaying but you're right it is obscenely expensive to stay within the town itself. We had a fabulous week staying in Hayle, an easy cycle ride/halfhour walk/4 minute drive to St Erth from where you can get a train into St Ives. We spent the 3 of our 6 non-travelling days in St Ives and the other 3 on fantastic day trips to other places nearby. Highly recommended.

Deadleaf29 · 13/06/2021 17:54

I’ve been. It’s lovely. But it looks a lot lovelier if you empty the place of everyone else and get very lucky with the weather!

Malteser71 · 13/06/2021 17:56

I agree. It’s really unbearably busy in august

MiaMc · 13/06/2021 18:00

This is just what I was worried about, I kinda hoped the weather would stay overcast this weekend.

NatMoz · 13/06/2021 18:00

St Ives is where I went every year as a child. So many happy memories and I'm pregnant so hope one day I can share the wonder with baby.

I live in South Manchester so Blackpool is probably the nearest beach to us but just no. Doesn't compare. Think Kate Middleton with Vicky Pollard!

We're going the week of the August bank holiday for £700. Our accomodation is not far from Porthmeor (surfing) beach.

Malteser71 · 13/06/2021 18:01

MiaMc

I know.

orangejuicer · 13/06/2021 18:02

It really is very beautiful but it knows it too - some areas very touristy, expensive and a nightmare to park.

I misread this as cheaper to stay in Provence, and travel to st Ives, which is probably also true
Classica · 13/06/2021 18:03

It does look lovely in al the news footage. Pembrokeshire is similarly gorgeous but less likely to be rammed.

Blackpool is...very different.

Malteser71 · 13/06/2021 18:07

I have a holiday property there. It’s quite expensive to run it, lack of local cleaners/tradespeople etc. Every changeover costs me £175 in cleaning/linen and that’s before you’ve added the coat of utilities.

It is however glorious, and my heart still flips when I get my first glimpse of it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 13/06/2021 18:07

It is lovely. But it’s usually rammed with people. Narrow streets and not much parking. They’ve been so lucky with the weather too. Great advertising for Cornwall not that they need it.

AlwaysLatte · 13/06/2021 18:14

My family are from there so I've spent lots of time there - it's a gorgeous part of the world.

cricketmum84 · 13/06/2021 18:15

@KihoBebiluPute We stayed in Hayle too 🥰

sittingonacornflake · 13/06/2021 18:28

Parking is an absolute bloody nightmare in st Ives in holiday season. We live in Cornwall and often day trip there but when's it's busy all the car parks fill completely before 9am.

But it is stunning. I adore it.

ilovebagpuss · 13/06/2021 19:19

It’s gorgeous but would probably be lovely to visit late Sept when you might have more space. When we have been we do the park and ride system and just be patient and potter along.
We always stay elsewhere though and just go for the day. When we were there last it was a hot day and it was genuinely like the Caribbean on the beach we went to.

Ragwort · 13/06/2021 19:21

Yes it's beautiful, had a holiday in the town years ago & then for many years visited for day trips as my parents lived nearby ... many happy memories.

Blimey that's loads, what is that based on?

I'm in Cornwall and I love St Ives but it's always so rammed I never go during tourist season. It's beautiful though.

allmycats · 13/06/2021 19:44

Carbis Bay us bloody lovely 😍 You can walk along a coastal path, go over the railway line and be in St. Ives in 20 mins. There is also a local train and a service bus. The walk up the hill from the stunning beach is suited to a mountain boat, but it is worth it. St Ives itself is busy during the day but when the daytrippers have gone is really very pleasant. Lovely beaches and cafes and restaurants and The Tate Modern gallery. Go for it, it is no more expensive than other really lovely areas, from basic self catering lets to high end hotels and property rentals. Have been many times, despite the 6 to 8 hour journey.

allmycats · 13/06/2021 19:45

Mountain Goat above should say.

NecklessMumster · 13/06/2021 19:47

It's beautiful, the light is lovely. Absolutely no parking though, and the seagulls are thugs

HeronLanyon · 13/06/2021 19:59

I’ve been a lot - spend a lot of time further west. I’ve not been in high season for many years unless someone is staying and wants to go.
It is gorgeous.
Still gorgeous when the waves are battering the doors of storm shuttered businesses in winter gales.
