I'm all for a bit of cheese at weddings but the birdie song is a bridge waaaaaay too far.

Billie Jean
The Shoop Shoop song - Cher
Baby one more time - Britney Spears

Has anyone suggested Insomnia by Faithless?

Ah so many, if I’ve had a few tipples and I need to show off my ‘amazing’ dance skills I request Beyonce single ladies, and yes, I do know the entire dance.

Merciess · 13/06/2021 19:02

Let's Dance by Bowie.

I agree. Especially at a fabulous child free wedding. You might as well go the whole nine yards and ask for Baby Shark.

Dancing in the street - Bowie and Jagger

VienneseWhirligig · 13/06/2021 19:26

Mr Brightside has to be the last song. It is the one played at clubs just before lights go up and they start kicking everyone out at the end of the night.

Classica · 13/06/2021 19:37

I'd definitely head to the bar whilst Mr Brightside was on.

Deee-lite - Groove is in the heart

SoapboxFox · 14/06/2021 07:14

Some of the songs mentioned have lyrics which don't fit in to the wedding spirit IMHO. Anything along the lines of failed relationships, unrequited love etc.

They're not asking for first dance suggestions so I don't think it matters. A group of my DH friends have all had Papa Roach- Last Resort at some point in the evening during their wedding receptions, definitely not in the wedding spirit but their group and partners have all flooded to the dancefloor when it came on.
Sparklingbrook · 14/06/2021 07:51

It’s not about the lyrics it’s about whether it’s a good dance tune. Grin

GertrudeKerfuffle · 14/06/2021 08:13

@Lemonwoe

Out of interest, what song do you have as the last dance in England?
'New York, New York' by Sinatra, with arms around each other's shoulders and high-kicking for some reason Confused

I went to a lovely wedding where they finished with 'One Day Like This' by Elbow and everyone was slurring singing the 'throw those curtains wide' bit at the tops of their voices. Very moving!

GertrudeKerfuffle · 14/06/2021 08:15

I nominate Crazy in Love by Beyoncé Grin
