Best wind and sun protection for the beach

What's the wind and sun protection for the beach?
Is it still a retro windbreak and an umbrella? What about the modern lightweight branded windbreaks eg berghaus?

Or bivvy things with poles and guy ropes?

Or pop up tent looking things? We had a uv proof baby tent , are the family ones good?

Or the tents based around an umbrella? Do they survive in wind?

It's UK (obviously) and a pretty windy beach but I'm fair skinned and burn easily. We'll be there all day.

Does the answer change if I'm the only adult carrying the beach stuff on public transport and kids are not old enough to help?

Clothes and sunscreen, plus moving around. You don't need all that crap.

Hi, OP. Yes, you do need that stuff if you're fair-skinned. For me, I need an umbrella and use towels to cover my exposed flesh if I'm sitting down. If you're on public transport and the only adult with no teenagers that's what I'd take.

If you've got a pushchair then you'll be able to take a small windbreak. Encourage your DC to carry their own stuff in backpacks.

It can be done.

Pop up tent and sunscreen. Long sleeve white top is what I would take if on the bus and no help. You will have food and kids crap to carry also. Might be an idea to buy micro fiber towels and folding buckets.

We used a little life family shelter as it was lightweight and it comfortably fit in the buggy and me when needed. (I did need to roll it up and shove in a carrier bag when the beach was rather breezy as it billowed out, as no way could I get it folded properly by myself to fit back into its bag, but it squished down easily and I found it fine to sort out myself when needed.)
