Driving from Aberdeen to cairnryan

Hi all, I have to drive as above this afternoon. I’ve never driven this route before (I’ve hardly ever driven in Scotland).

Where should I stop en route? On my own and obviously keen to adhere to all restrictions, but any recommendations even as to good rest stops for a wee! Fuel shouldn’t be a problem.

Any advice welcomed.

I would say Glendoik garden centre between dundee and Perth, but that’s only a couple of hours (if that) into your journey. So probably too early to stop. Sorry, don’t have any recommendations further west.
Safe travels though

Oh this is exactly the kind of info I need! Thank you! (Love a garden centre).

All of these are great, love a country park and a farm shop too! It’s like you all know me!

Monk lands service station is around 1.5 hours from Cairnryan - toilets/M &S food hall, coffee etc. There aren't any other services for a bit after that so I'd stop there for a quick loo stop and then garden centre type stop later for lunch/food etc.

Also average speed cameras for most of road from Cairn Ryan until Glasgow outskirts - speed limit changes a lot going through small villages so just be mindful.

Stirling Services might be a good shout if your looking for a quick off and back on the motorway.

I’m assuming your coming through Ayr to get there? If so, there’s a Dobbies garden centre in Ayr with toilets / food. Always nice for a wander around to stretch the legs.

I am going through Ayr so have realised farm shop won’t work - so dobbies a great shout as I have a dobbies card so free coffee!

I’ve never driven down the east coast before - would it be a disaster driving down the coast road, I think it’s through Montrose and Arbroath? Are they pretty places to drive through?

I have about 8 hours to do a 4-5 hour drive. So I can meander a bit if it’s worth it!

Although I do remember a ‘20min’ detour through snowdonia that created a perfect avalanche of delays on a Friday afternoon resulting in about an 8 hour addition to the journey time to london so I must bear that in mind!
