How much to pay babysitter?

We always use either my parents or DH parents for babysitting when we go out, but both are tied up tomorrow so I have asked my lovely, responsible, grown up nearly 15 year old niece to babysit for the first time tomorrow evening for us. My DC are 8 and 6, and they adore their cousin., we are all a very close family, so how much should I pay her? Have totally no idea! I don't want to take the 'P' and expect her to do it for nothing but don't want to overpay either (as I may be asking her again if she enjoys it!) what's the going rate? It will be from about 6.30-11.30pm, 5 hours and my DH thinks £30? Does this sound about right?

Yes, my £16 year old would be happy with that.

Yes, I think that’s about right. Going rate for a teen babysitter here is £5/hr so you’re not far off.

30 pounds is perfect at that age

More than fair.

Sounds perfect. For brownie points leave some snacks and soft drinks out for her. (Best gig I had involved a large platter of various treats. And among my nursery colleagues its the families who leave the best chocolates out that get talked about the most!!! Grin)

Yes, that’s what my 17yr old DD earned when she babysat. And I agree with snacks!

That's perfect thank you all!! ... will get some snacks and was planning to order them a dominos for tea as a little treat! Smile
