If I really love the 90’s Pride and Prejudice series, what else might I like?

I need something to binge. I’ve got Netflix, Amazon Prime and some Sky channels and On Demand stuff through Virgin Media.

Any suggestions?

Can you get Much Ado anywhere? I've been looking but I can't find it. I have even put out a request to my local charity shop!

@PuppyMonkey

You’ve probably seen the Emma Thompson version of Sense and Sensibility?

Room with a View with Helena BC?

All the Emmas are great imho too.

Remains of the Day.

All of these!!!

YesToThis And Susan Hampshire's absolute grifter, having everyone run around with sofas for her to lie on in her million-frilled gowns Grin.

Sorry. I really adore this series.

I now feel compelled to rewatch it ..

Bad news - it's not on any streaming service. Good news - that means all seven episodes are on YouTube.

It's Alan Rickman's breakthrough role I think - wasn't he unusually old with only amateur experience. And he's brilliant. I think episode 1 starts a little slow, but once you have that cast assembled ....

Oh yes, Cold Comfort Farm, starring a young Rufus Sewell in tight breeches and no shirt.

What can I say, I have a type.

Ken and Em’s Much Ado is available on DVD from Amazon for three quid or so. Worth every penny I’d say.

North and South, definitely
Emma (2009 with Romola Garai)
War and Peace

I particularly like that version of Emma because it gives you new things to think about even if you know the story.

You can buy the best of Jane Austen on DVD for £17.99 on Amazon. It has P&P, sense and sensibility, emma and persuasion. They were all very good

@Laska2Meryls

The 1983 Mansfield Park with Sylvestra Le Touzel and Anna Massey ?
Emma with Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong
Barchester Chronicles with Alan Rickman

Oh no! Not the Mark Strong Mr Knightley! He is so grumpy in that version it just makes you miserable. Also Kate Beckinsale is so beautiful always but has a small and distracting moustache in that series.

YesToThis, everyone was talking about Alan Rickman as Slope at the time, it was def his breakthrough role though I think he'd done a few bit parts and a lot of theatre. I wasn't surprised when he became a huge star later on.

ElizabethinherGermangarden Really? I always thought that Mark Strong was just darkly brooding in it.. ( Although I have always been slightly disturbed about him being 16 years older and JA's 'being in love with you since 13' line..
But I am taking it as a sign of the age...

The way we live now had a great cast, inc David Suchet, Shirley Henderson, Matthew Macfadyen and a young Cillian Murphy.

Middlemarch was brilliant too ,

Charles11 the power and the passion . With Rufus Sewell, Helen McCory, Rupert Graves, Shirley Henderson

I think they’ve all already been mentioned but
Sense and Sensibility
Lark Rise to Candleford
North and South
Cranford

I loved a series called The Aristocrats, about the Lennox sisters, but haven’t been able to find it anywhere else. Does anyone else remember it?

Don’t put Outlander with these suggestions for pity’s sake, I lasted one episode before switching off through sheer cringe. You’re better off with Highlander. That’s how bad Outlander is.

If you like Jennifer Ehle (Elizabeth Bennett), try The Camomile Lawn.

It also includes recommendations for The Other Boleyn Girl and The Tudors so...... Hmm

Not everyone shares the exact same taste.

BBC iPlayer has Effie Gray, and Prime has Wilde ( the Stephen Fry one). Appreciate these are films but very watchable.

@PuppyMonkey I suggested Outlander. Yes it does have a fair bit of cringe (and a lot of violence) - so maybe not ideal for the Ops list. I can take that on the chin.

Thanks to whoever mentioned Much Ado on Amazon sadly I can only find it on American dvd which I don't think I can play.

Quite a few series mentioned that I had completely forgotten about so I have my viewing planned for the next couple of weeks whilst I avoid the football.
