In an ideal world what would you eat?

I mean if you weren't on a diet/have allergies/live somewhere where you are pining for certain foods you cannot get.

I was musing about this on the way to work. I needed a drink as I had left mine behind so went into Greggs. Big mistake. Came out with a vegan sausage roll. I am supposed to be cutting down for God's sake!

In an ideal world my life would be pull of pastry covered products and I would have my fill of crisps, chips and chocolate. I would also eat more exotic fruit (diabetic so in reality ain't going to happen). I would also go mad for mashed potatoes and yorkie puds plus victoria sponge. Yum!

What would be your foods of choice?

CHEESE (can't do dairy)

Specifically

A really lovely ripe Brie all squishy and smelly

Port Salut

A decent cheese and pickle toastie (vegan cheddar doesn't cut it)

Macaroni Cheese

Baked Camembert

Raclette

Mmmmmmmmmm

Bread all day long. Cheese. And cake.

A bread basket full of warm ciabatta, cheese rolls, sourdough, rye, the lot, with a massive cheeseboard. Loads of blue cheese and stinky French loveliness.

Then a big wedge of lemon drizzle, a selection of traybakes and some warm churros and chocolate sauce to dip them in.

Why aren't you all eating the things you want? HAVE THE BREAD! We don't exist to be on diets and lose weight.
Yup. I pretty much did eat and drink everything I wanted last year. Im talking Maccies for breakfast, KFC for lunch and domino's for dinner. Followed by a load of booze. It was great. I eventually got to a point where I didn't want takeaway anymore because I'd scratched the itch and I haven't eaten chocolate since Easter. I used to describe myself as a chocoholic. Turns out it's true what people say, we only crave this stuff because we deprive ourselves of it.

I did put on weight BTW. The grand total of half a stone. I've also yet to drop dead of heart disease like everyone told me I would.

If money was no object and I didn’t have to feed the family, every day I would live on

  • antipasti with lots of Parma ham, salami, olives, grilled courgettes, feta dip
  • seafood platter of smoked salmon, tiger prawns, squid, lobster claws & fresh crab
  • cheese board with goats cheese, mature cheddar, Brie & good crackers & bread
  • tomato avocado mozzarella salads
  • grapes, mango, strawberries, pineapple, papaya, melon, peaches & nectarines
  • a variety of yoghurts

My God I would be happy

Ninkanink · 11/06/2021 12:45

I eat everything in moderation. However in an ideal world moderation would go completely out the window.😋😋

Yes. I eat quite a lot of those, tbf. They’re mostly perfectly healthy things and not particularly dangerous.
EssentialHummus · 11/06/2021 12:47

I actually like eating healthily most of the time but get a bit bored. So if I could have Yotam Ottolenghi drop off a different salad every day around noon that would be great. Maybe with a side of triple-cooked chips.

3Britnee · 11/06/2021 12:52

Chips and beans with sausage roll/corn beef/fishfingers/sausages.

Indian, chinese, kebab, pizza, chicken shop, tgi's, nandos, McDonald's.

Chocolate and cake. And pastries.

Bacon sandwiches.

Crisps and nuts.

Vodka and lemonade.

M&S sandwiches. Tesco meal deals.

Pasties.

Everything bad, basically 😂

CookPassBabtridge · 11/06/2021 12:56

When I eat whatever I want in the amounts I want, I peak at 20 stone. Which I have done twice.
So I have to control and restrict myself so I can stay around 11 stone (5ft 7)
I so wish I could eat what I wanted 😭

iklboo · 11/06/2021 13:00

Crusty bread with real butter, a selection of meats & cheeses, pickled onions, pork pie, posh crisps and copious white wine.

Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries & blueberries, pears, peaches & nectarines.

ifigoup · 11/06/2021 13:16

What, and not get constipated, feel miserable because of the lack of vitamins etc? Ooooh…

My diet would heavily feature:

  • crisps, notably the really crappy corn-based onion rings, and really strong posh salt and vinegar ones.
  • chocolate, especially the fruity fondant-filled bars.
  • ice-cream sundaes with brownies and hot fudge sauce.
  • New York cheesecake.
  • Sausages, salami, frikkedellen, and other processed pork products.
  • Pork scratchings.
  • Calamari, scampi, breaded clams.
  • Sweeties: foam bananas, pear drops, kola kubes, mint humbugs, sherbet fruits, chocolate raisins, treacle toffee, etc.
  • Puddings: treacle tart, sticky toffee pudding, golden syrup sponge, chocolate fondant, ice-cream cake, chocolate cream pie, key lime pie.

Drool…

wingsofsteel · 11/06/2021 13:18

If all foods were equally nutritious (or I could be heavier without feeling unwell and in pain) my daily food would be something like:

breakfast- pancakes with maple syrup or cheese on doorstep thick white toast
mid morning snack- skittles and/or icecream with caramel sauce
lunch- lovely cheeses, salad, pickles, crisps, dips, olives and tons of thick fresh white bread
Mid afternoon- chocolate and/or sponge cake with icing
Dinner- mounds of mashed potato, pie, gravy, veg followed by sticky toffee pudding with cream and icecream
Evening- crisps, cheese, crackers & nuts then chocolate

I had too many days like this over lockdown and now need to lose weight (again)

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 11/06/2021 13:20

If I had a private chef I'd get them to make me Japanese or Thai every day...I'd love that.

glitterbubbles · 11/06/2021 13:25

Chicken chow mein, loads of Mac n cheese, proper sausage rolls, all the chocolate, pizza, cheesy pasta.. basically all the stodge! Oh and loads of crisps and fizzy sweets

glitterbubbles · 11/06/2021 13:26

Oh and fudge, raclette, all the thick sliced homemade bread and butter 🧈

twinkletoedelephant · 11/06/2021 13:30

Huge variety of fresh fruit, fresh veg and salad, and roasted veg.... with the odd medium steak.

Dc all have very very restrictive diets...mostly beige bland foods..... I cook up to 4 different meals, usually haven't the energy tu cook me something I want..something colourful

This. Totally. But mostly the seafood which I can no longer eat after developing an allergy. Oh and chocolate…
AramintaArrowsmith · 11/06/2021 14:00

@BarbaraofSeville coriander over everything? What an absolute monster you are Envy

Ninkanink · 11/06/2021 14:08

Mmmmmm coriander! 😜

MistySkiesAfterRain · 11/06/2021 14:22

Salmon for every meal, with a giant vegetarian buffet, copious amounts of fruit and meringue for pudding.

Dinner would be a home made casserole and veggies with red wine.

Breakfast- fruits, ham, eggs, bread, cereal.

Waffles in the afternoon.

None of this would involve me cooking or lifting a finger.

lurkingfromhome · 11/06/2021 14:53

@Scotlandiscold

Why aren't you all eating the things you want? HAVE THE BREAD! We don't exist to be on diets and lose weight.
Because I'd rather not get massively overweight and put myself at greater risk of Type 2 diabetes, various cancers, heart problems, stroke, sore joints etc.

Because I like being in my mid-50s and still able to do a ton of exercise without getting injured.

Because I want to live until I'm 90 and stay as active as I can, thereby increasing my chances of living independently as long as possible.

So, it's not really about losing weight and being 'on a diet'. And I do eat all the stuff I want to eat, just not every day.

lljkk · 11/06/2021 15:09

Why aren't you all eating the things you want?

Mangos are expensive.
Store humus is expensive & home-humus isn't as nice, doesn't keep well.
Good soup & stews take lots more effort to make than a sandwich.
Nutella rots my teeth & really isn't that balanced.
I'm not good at making the type of fruit cake I like (too much effort, costs more than shop-made food)
Salad takes a lot of room in fridge & attention to remember to eat it.

Too much of any favourite food stops tasting that nice.

RubyGoat · 11/06/2021 15:13

Really good bread
Wheat pasta
Cake. Lots of cake
Many recipes containing onions, garlic & mushrooms.

I can’t eat any of them. Much stomach ache ensues if I do. But I do like rice, & homemade potato waffles are amazing.

Fluffymule · 11/06/2021 15:27

Crusty farmhouse loaves
Borders biscuits
Pink Lady apples
Alpen museli
Cornish pasties
Chips from the chippy
Risotto
Lemon meringue

I eat low carb/sugar and these are the things I miss the most. In this fictitious ideal world mentioned I'd add them back in to my regular diet in a heartbeat.
