Loudons at Fountainpark and Honeycomb & Co. in Bruntsfield are nice. Not exactly bang in the city centre, though.

There is a branch of Loudon's in the city centre now too - it's near Waverley Station just off the Royal Mile.

Would also recommend Rock Salt on Jeffrey Street.

Urban Angel on Hanover Street is good, you have to book though as it's extremely popular.

The Ivy on the Square is also good if you want something posher. It's not unique to Edinburgh though. (As in, it's a chain, there are Ivys in lots of places.)

Thanks everyone.
I'll look at them all

We had a nice breakfast at Scran at the weekend, it was in Cockburn St, just off the Royal Mile.
