Due to go in a couple of weeks and I know we are now restricted in what food stuffs we can take into the EU. We normally take a picnic lunch in our car, the Independent are reporting that at some borders sandwiches are being confiscated! Has anyone been through Eurotunnel and had their car searched for suspicious ham butties and thermos flasks! TIA

You are not supposed to bring any meat or dairy products into France.

Whether you get searched or not depends on who is doing the checks that day.

Anecdotal FB posts suggest that some people have no issues at all and others have to show the required reams of documentation (and surrender their bacon!)

Not Eurotunnel but we came back from Turin with a jar of honey in hand luggage (so it didn't get squashed) about 5 years ago, searched, and had to surrender it for disposal.
It was actually disposed of. We asked the customs lady if she would be allowed to keep it, it seemed such a waste that it would be just destroyed, but she wasn't. She was a bit sad about that too...
