Mattress topper or new mattress?

I've recently bought a bed for the spare bedroom. It's only going to be used by guests (and by myself some nights when DH's snoring becomes unbearable). The reviews were generally okay, the odd winge but not enough to put me off.

But it turns out the mattress is unbelievably uncomfortable, I can feel all the springs when I lie down. So I'm wondering whether a mattress topper would help? I've never had one before so no idea if they're thick enough to make any difference. Or would I be better just getting a new mattress?

Any recommendations on mattress toppers or new mattresses also welcome :)

Yes they are amazing! I have a hard as nails sofa bed from Debenhams and got one made to measure from Cool Max, its about 1.5 inches thick. Always complimented by guests.

I had same issue. Bought mattress toppers. Couple of friends have stayed since and commented on how cosy and comfy beds are . I got them in M&S or John Lewis.

Is it too late to return it?
If it is, I can definitely recommend getting a thick foam topper, mine is blissful.
(Though for some reason they seem to be slightly narrower than the mattress, and also create a need for extra-deep sheets)
I got mine from Aldi, can’t remember make, hang on…

Would a mattress topper help if the mattress is too soft?

Thank you so much for all your replies. It sounds like the mattress topper is the way to go.

I've a panda bamboo memory foam topper on my bed and it's fab I can definitely recommend one of these

I am not a big fan of toppers for some reasons. Just get a decent mattress and you will have it for years. Here are some good ideas for the guest room - mattressive.com/mattress-for-guest-room/. We got a The DreamCloud hybrid mattress and all our guest love it!

I have a panda bamboo too, it is wonderful, has completely rejuvenated the mattress!
