Has anyone managed to successfully move their 2nd vaccination forwards?

I had my first jab 2 weeks ago. Second is not till mid august, but I’d love to move it forward to make travelling abroad to see family easier. But I’m hesitant to cancel the appointment without seeing if any earlier appointments are available!!!

Is there any way of knowing whether earlier appointments will be available before I cancel? Has anyone done the same?

We did it - but after we received a text stating that earlier appointments were available. We had to cancel the second jab and rebook. Not only was it sooner but also more convenient location not available when we originally booked our jabs.

I know people who’ve tried - if it’s AZ it’s very possible, but not with Pfizer. Presumably because we now have more AZ than we need but a constrained supply of Pfizer.

Yes I did it with mine, AZ. No way of knowing if appointments are available but if there aren’t then it should let you rebook your previous one unless the unlikely event that someone else has booked it in the meantime (i have a friend wanting to move her moderna one forward and she’s cancelled and rebooked the same appointment about 5 times now!)

I did it for AZ. The guy at 119 suggested changing the appointment late at night or early in the morning when the website is quiet, so that if there was nothing available I could just rebook my old slot as no-one would be around to nab it.

I did but I had to wait for the appointment to come through via text first.

They gave me a date that was about 11wks from first vaccine and I'd have been away on holiday. It took a couple of days of constant checking to find another date. I ended up getting it around the 10wk mark after first vaccine.

Thanks guys that’s really helpful. I’ve had Pfizer so nog be trickier. I’m hoping I’ll get a text saying earlier appointments are available…

Ours was automatically moved toward. Had first two weeks ago and received a message that my second has been moved to mid July. Same for my dh. This was through the hospital trust here though. Those I know who have gone to a pharmacy or centre haven’t had their date moved. Oh and it was pfizer.

If you have a local/community Facebook page, keep an eye on it. Our local vaccination hub posts regularly on ours to say when it has free appointments or walk in sessions. One day it posted at 3pm to say 'come on down if you need a second jab, we've got extra vaccine availability this afternoon'.
Someone also links information about availability at other hubs within a reasonable distance.
