Did anyone lose a ring on a Devon beach recently?

My son found a ring while paddling in the sea at Mill Bay beach, across from Salcombe, last week. I would have left it with the car park attendant but there was no one there, and in the end we ended up bringing it home. I’ve just been looking at it more closely and it’s a Georg Jenson ring retailing at rather a lot… I bet someone is really missing it! I thought it’s worth asking on here as Mill Bay is a very Mumsnet sort of a beach! I’ve registered it as found with the Devon and Cornwall police and posted in the list and found section on Gumtree. Any other suggestions of how I can reunite it with its owner?

I’m loathe to add a photo as I’d like the genuine owner to describe it before I send it to them…

Post on the local Facebook page.

I can’t seem to find a relevant local group, and I bet it was a tourist rather than a local anyway…

Email the higher end hotels in the area?

Good point. Is there a facebook lost and found page for the general area?

I think if I lost a ring on a beach I'd assume it'd be gone for good because it could literally be anywhere.

Even if it was a tourist who lost it rather than a local they will probably join some local FB groups to try and find it (if they use social media).

How lovely of you to try to locate the owner of the ring, I hope they are reunited. Good luck Flowers

What is a Mumsnet sort of a beach?

Very kind of you to try and track down the owner Flowers

Post on Lostbox on Facebook.

There is Salcombe and Kingsbridge noticeboard on Facebook. That may be a place to put a notice. Someone will possibly have had people to stay who may have lost the ring or someone local could have lost it. We locals do go to our local beaches you know Grin.

Of course, not meaning to offend any of the local residents who have to put up with so much during holiday season! I’ll try the Salcombe and kingsbridge noticeboard group, thank you. I found various local selling groups and other sorts of groups that didn’t seem all that active but it’s hard to know what to look for…

Mill Bay (in school holidays which is when I’m usually there) is always full of terribly wholesome teenagers playing cricket with their fathers and wearing leavers’ hoodies from Bryanston or Marlborough. I’m sure there is a fair bit of Mumsnet crossover… This is all very tongue in cheek, please forgive me!

It is very unlikely to belong to a local. Though they do covet golden rings in particular, locals tend to be much shorter than tourists with bare hairy feet and fat fingers. It simply wouldn’t fit and if it did they would vanish immediately.
