How to tell if a psychic medium is genuine?

sallybally34 · 09/06/2021 14:29

I have booked a session on Monday and it's not cheap at £100 for a hour.
I've just lost my nana and mum and I'm desperate to know they are ok and still around me.
How will I know if this medium is genuine?
She is asking who I want to connect with,do I tell her?
Or let her tell me who she is finding.

I’m sorry for your loss, that must be really hard.
There’s no such thing as a genuine psychic or medium. They may think they are, but it’s all nonsense.
The ones we love are always here with us though, you don’t need to pay money for that. They wouldn’t want you to do that either I’m sure.

eurochick · 09/06/2021 14:32

The test is : anyone describing themselves as a psychic medium is not genuine. Save your money. I'm sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your losses OP.

Please don't waste your money on this. Your mum and nana will always be with you. Flowers

Perfectly put.

Op I'm sorry for your loss but these people feed off sorrow- they are no help.

ShowOfHands · 09/06/2021 14:34

I say this with all due love, respect and compassion but there are no genuine mediums.

Never in all the years of researching and testing has anybody supplied a shred of evidence of genuine mediumship. At best it's a diversion, at worst it is preying on the vulnerable bereaved.

I'm so so sorry for your losses. Are there grief services available near you? Here we have a range of charitable and statutory providers offering support during bereavement.

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 09/06/2021 14:35

None of them are genuine.
I'm so sorry you're hurting but save your money, she can't communicate with anyone who has died.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 09/06/2021 14:36

None of them are

tillytoodles1 · 09/06/2021 14:37

Don't waste your money, just remember your mum and nan as they were.

Siennabear · 09/06/2021 14:38

I have seen mediums before, some very good others not so much. I wouldn’t pay that much though. The most I paid was £30 a session. If it makes you feel better go for it but maybe find a cheaper one.

roguetomato · 09/06/2021 14:40

I don't think you can. It's up to you to believe it or not, and risk paying a lot of money.
I like psychic stuff, but do I totally believe them? The answer is no. But just take good part of reading in my case. I was told my gran father on my fathers side is my guardian angel once. That's a lovely thought, so I'm happy to believe that one. Grin

Toilenstripes · 09/06/2021 14:42

You can always ask your mum and nana to let you know they’re around you. Then pay attention. It might be their favourite song on the radio, a cloud formation, a unique looking flower. Anything that brings them to your mind is their way of saying hello, we love you. You don’t need a stranger to confirm the relationship and the love. 💐

Beetlebrooker · 09/06/2021 14:43

Your mum and nan will always be around you, as your memories. I'm sorry for your loss, my mum died last year. Flowers

I consider myself fairly open to "woo" stuff, and I've seen this sort of thing give great comfort - and if £20 for half an hour allows my dear bereaved friend to sleep at night and feel less grief and pain for her lost child, I'm not going to tell her not to pay for it.

But since you're asking, I 100% do not believe any of it is genuine.

mmmmysharona · 09/06/2021 14:58

Sorry for your loss op.
However to be honest, none of them are actually genuine.
Any info you give, any, from just emailing and names, will be used to cold or hot read you.
Whatever they end up telling you may ease your mind but in actuality you're just paying to be ripped off.

MrsTerryPratchett · 09/06/2021 14:59

It's all bollocks.

Can you use the money to do something for yourself that your mum would like? Mine liked getting a pedicure with DD and me. Something like that.

OneToThree · 09/06/2021 15:05

None are real. It’s not real.
Sorry for your loss.

Love51 · 09/06/2021 15:10

Derren Brown has done some exposure work in this area I believe. He did faith healer stuff as well. He also got lots of people to give him a personal item and wrote them a paragraph about what they are like as people (obviously they all said it was spot on despite being the same paragraph for each of them).
Talk to your mum and Nana.
My mum and I used to chat to her late mum when we used her sewing machine. It helps fill the void.

Auntienumber8 · 09/06/2021 15:12

Please don’t see an alleged medium, they prey on the vulnerable.

SirenSays · 09/06/2021 15:16

So sorry for your loss OP

That's very expensive for only an hours time. My old boss used to do tarot readings and charged a lot less than that for a single hour. Her sessions absolutely brought peace to some, but I don't think any one of us workers really believed it.

On whether you tell her, I think it depends what you want, a cold reading it will probably be much more vague.
Just remember the information she gives you is likely things you want to hear, mixed with info she stole from social media.

amusedbush · 09/06/2021 15:17

Anyone claiming to be a psychic medium is a charlatan preying on vulnerable people.

Please save your money and remember your mum and nana in your own way.

FrenchieFromGrease · 09/06/2021 15:17

It's better to get a personal recommendation from someone who has seen the psychic before. However, you seem to be in a low place and it's easy for unscrupulous people to take advantage of you when you feel like this. Could you wait a while until you feel on a more even keel? £100 is a lot.

I go to see them sometimes just for a bit of fun. Some are clearly complete charlatans, one insisted my grandfather was watching over me in spirit despite my grandfathers all still being alive. Another heard my English accent and pretended he was getting messages from my 'grandad Alfred who fought in the war and liked football', just making complete stabs in the dark based on English stereotypes. It was laughable. I actually did laugh and he had the grace to look embarrassed.

However, a couple of others have been uncanny. Naming relatives, both living and dead, describing their illnesses and things about their life that I didn't know but turned out to be true, such as an adoption in the family etc. One said "do you work at X Company?" (The name of a well known national company that had just gone bust) and I didn't, however I did work for one of their competitors and we'd picked up lots of X Company's work after they closed. So there are good ones out there, but a person who takes £100 off somebody who is clearly grieving is probably not a good one.

I hope you feel better soon. Flowers

afaloren · 09/06/2021 15:19

SingingInTheShithouse · 09/06/2021 15:23

Shock at £100 per hour you can absolutely guarantee that it's a con

& I say that as someone who does believe some are genuine & I'm "sensitive" myself. The whole ethos of genuine clairvoyance etc is not to profit. Cover costs by all means, but £100 is taking the pee

Find your local spiritualist church, they will have genuine mediums either 1-1 or open circle & it will be a small donation of a few pounds
