How to tell if a psychic medium is genuine?

sallybally34 · 09/06/2021 14:29

I have booked a session on Monday and it's not cheap at £100 for a hour.
I've just lost my nana and mum and I'm desperate to know they are ok and still around me.
How will I know if this medium is genuine?
She is asking who I want to connect with,do I tell her?
Or let her tell me who she is finding.

Aww OP, grief is awful Sad

I don’t believe in psychic’s powers, sadly.

RubyGoat · 09/06/2021 15:26

Please don’t pay any money to anyone claiming to be psychic, a medium etc.

lovelybitofsquirrell · 09/06/2021 15:26

I've seeN many mediums over the years. Some good some bad.

Never pay that amount. Its ridiculous. The very good ones I have seen has charged a minimal amount because they enjoy it, not because it's a business.

Never say you are trying to connect to someone in particular. A genuine medium will not ask you this at all.

I understand the need to feel that much loved relatives are 'still around' when they pass away. I really do. But these people who claim to be able to contact the dead are either delusional or charlatans. And if this one is charging you £100 an hour then I would put them firmly in the charlatan camp.

Your Nana and your Mum are with you, they live on in your memories and through you. Don't give your money to some 'medium' spend it on something you can keep with you as a special keepsake, a piece of jewellery or a lovely ornament, donate it to a charity that meant a lot to them, don't give it to these people who prey on the grieving.

I am so sorry for your loss. Much love to you Thanks

osbertthesyrianhamster · 09/06/2021 15:30

I'm very sorry, but they're all bollocks. None of them is genuine. Please don't give a person your money for this type of charade.

knittingaddict · 09/06/2021 15:30

Agree with everyone else. They all fake.

idontlikealdi · 09/06/2021 15:34

None of them are. If you want to piss £100 away go for it.

missmopple · 09/06/2021 15:38

As others have said, I am sorry for your loss but please don't waste your money on this fake nonsense.

Geamhradh · 09/06/2021 15:39

I am open to woo and dabble in cards and stuff.
Anybody taking that amount of money is a fakester. Seriously.
I always tell people as well that I'm not a fortune teller and make no predictions.
I'm willing to predict this scammer will miraculously make contact with your loved ones though. They always do.
If you want to hear from them, you ask them to let you know. Far more likely to talk to you than some scamming lowlife pretending to have the gift.

I am so so sorry for your loss and understand why you are looking forward help in this way, but I also have to say that no mediums are genuine, it isn't possible.
SingingInTheShithouse · 09/06/2021 15:49

Some mediums are definitely genuine, but definitely not one that charges £100, profiting like that is completely against the code of ethics of genuine mediums

1forAll74 · 09/06/2021 15:50

I would save your money. Mediums are usually a bit phoney, and to charge sad people money for being phoney is really awful. They can usually pick up things from you, that you wan't to hear about the loved ones that you miss.

You need to have the belief in your own mind, to think that your loved ones are in a nice place now. and imagine all nice things for them.

You really don't need a strange other person, who never knew your loved ones, to tell you how things are now.

TableFlowerss · 09/06/2021 15:52

Sorry for your loss OP. It’s understandable that you want to seek reassurance that your loved ones are happy etc and there are so many people who proclaim to be able to contact the dead and will charge you his knows how much.

There’s people prey on the vulnerable and promise them the impossible. They are nothing but fakes, exploiting people at there saddest times for their own gain.

Let’s say don’t of them do believe they can contact our loved ones, they are delusional.

Again I know you want to believe but I hate to see people being ripped off, especially in these sad circumstances.

TableFlowerss · 09/06/2021 15:53

Psychonabike · 09/06/2021 15:55

It's all nonsense.

These people are sociopaths.

Imagine, @sallybally34 having a genuine psychic gift that could give so much to so many...would you charge these sums of money for private sessions with desperate people? Of course not. You'd be widely known, revered, respected, helping as many people as possible.

They exploit people at their weakest, provide their "service" quietly and privately to avoid scrutiny. Because it is all absolute nonsense. And to be able to do knowingly do this, they are sociopaths. Narcissistic too, to make other people's grief and desperation all about them and their need to be perceived as special.

Stay well clear and allow yourself to heal and adjust through the normal process of grief. If you are struggling, get in touch with CRUSE.

BrownEyedGirl80 · 09/06/2021 16:01

I went to one in my 20s,I was clearly upset. She told me I was bereaved or just broken up with someone. To be fair it was most likely to be one of those! They know that most people go to psychics for those type of things.

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 09/06/2021 16:05

Some mediums are definitely genuine

Some of them may be genuinely deluded but none of them can speak to the dead.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/06/2021 16:07

I have to agree there are a lot of charletans who will take your money and they will pick up a lot of information from you (without you realising) which they will then present to you ( it's called cold reading or similar)

But .....
DH and I went to see Derek Acorah , he did a tour and one of the venues was local.
We used to watch him on Most Haunted then he went all glamour/Hollywood .
We were not blown away , there were a couple of people who responded to the clues he threw out .

At the end though he said something like "Your loved ones are always round you , look for a sign . It;s nothing like Most Haunted (cue chuckling from audience) but it might be something that has moved . Or you lose then find "

I was looking at the motion camera we had in our hall, this was the night before my Dad's cremation. (Camera in my house not parents)
There was nothing triggering it but it pinged the alarm on DH phone .
A light orb crossed the cameras field . It moved slowly , few seconds , erratic movement so not a reflection or a light .
And nothing else on the screen.

This was the last night he was at rest , his soul had gone when he died .

I think back "Yes Derek you are right . They send signs "

Yes of course, you are the great oracle of everything & know all there is to know, I bow down to your infinite wisdom on something you clearly have no knowledge of Grin

disconnected101 · 09/06/2021 16:09

No medium is genuine. If they were they would do it for free. They are disgusting shysters. I hate them with a passion. They prey on vulnerable people, who desperately miss their loved ones, like you.
It's one thing going on a night out like a hen do to see a 'medium' give a performance - for that's all it is - for entertainment. It's quite another to dupe bereaved people out of A LOT of money.

Moonmelodies · 09/06/2021 16:13

When she answered the phone, did she already know who you are, and was she expecting your call?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 09/06/2021 16:14

Cancel the booking and if they protest tell them they should've seen it coming !

SingingInTheShithouse · 09/06/2021 16:15

Disc, many do do it for free via spiritual centres, or minimum charge to cover cost at home. They are the genuine ones & I've met a few incredible ones in my time. One lady I later became friends with & she very accurately predicted the next 20 years of my life down to very odd minute details. Nothing she predicted was even on my mind back then & I argued some predictions. She was spot on with everything though

disconnected101 · 09/06/2021 16:17

'I'm desperate' This blood-sucker knows that. Of course she is going to tell you 'your mum and nana' - which she will know since she wants this information from you - 'want to tell you that they are with you and they are keeping you safe' etc etc. What a cushy number this shyster has going on, charging desperate people £100 an hour. Is it cash only? I wonder if HMRC know about it.
SingingInTheShithouse · 09/06/2021 16:21

I'm actually really angry about the £100 price, it's charlatans like that that get all mediums a bad name & it disgusts me that they take advantage of people who are grieving
