How to tell if a psychic medium is genuine?

sallybally34 · 09/06/2021 14:29

I have booked a session on Monday and it's not cheap at £100 for a hour.
I've just lost my nana and mum and I'm desperate to know they are ok and still around me.
How will I know if this medium is genuine?
She is asking who I want to connect with,do I tell her?
Or let her tell me who she is finding.

VanGoghsDog · 09/06/2021 16:23

she very accurately predicted the next 20 years of my life down to very odd minute details

Lol. You can't see that by having this "prediction" you acted in a way that made it come true? No?
Or also that masses of your life did not follow this "prediction" but that you have decided to disregard those things.

VettiyaIruken · 09/06/2021 16:23

None of them are genuine.

If this one was, why would she need you to give her any information?

I am sorry for your loss and I understand your desperation but this person is only going to get what info they can from you and tell you what they think you want to hear.

If that's worth £100 to you then fair enough.

If you tell her you are hoping to hear from your mum and nan, that's who she'll 'talk to'. If you invent a dear uncle who died in a sky diving accident, she'll give you a message from him.

They prey on people at their most vulnerable. It's shameful

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2021 16:23

easily.
none of them are.

The genuine ones won't ask for or accept money for them to use their 'gift'. My now exH went to see a medium a couple of years after his father died very suddenly and the man wouldn't take any money or details from him other than his first name upon arrival. Ex got a great deal from the session - not so much his mum who also went as it made her VERY angry that her husband had died and was now happy and with her father 'over there' when she was left behind. I think ex got lucky - I went to a £10 in a pub evening event and it was def a cold reading thing - told me a load of bollocks Grin.

Bluedeblue · 09/06/2021 16:28

My Mum went to a "Medium" event at a local church hall. A Medium told her that she could hear someone calling out my name. I have a very unusual name, you'd be lucky if you've met 2 people in your whole life with my name. Also, I wasn't with my Mum at the time and I live 350 miles away. There's no way this Medium knew me. Anyway, she gave my Mum quite a long message for me. My Mum thought it was a load of rubbish, because the things the Medium said didn't fit my circumstances (for example, she talked about me meeting a new man, and moving house, whereas I was married and our house was not for sale). Despite this, my Mum called me and relayed the message. What my Mum didn't know, (because I hadn't told a soul), was that I was planning on divorcing my husband and I had actually spent the whole day viewing houses. Now, that's a huge coincidence no?

This Medium also told my Mum, that she would come to own a guitar, and that she'd have a lottery win. Mum was not musical! About 2 years later, my parents were sitting in the garden in the evening, and a guitar came flying over the fence, landing squarely on the lawn. Then, a few weeks, later my Mum won £20,000 on the lottery (when you could win with a colour and a number).

Since then, I have believed that there has to be "something" going on.

But sadly, my Mum passed away last year, and despite her always telling me she would give me a sign, so far there's been nothing.

murbblurb · 09/06/2021 16:29

This person is a filthy skank preying on the recently bereaved. Do not give any of your money, she is scum. There are no actual psychics. She will cold read and use Google.

I'm sorry for your loss and very angry that you are being scammed.

FeatheredHope · 09/06/2021 16:30

I’m so sorry for your losses OP, but anyone charging you £100 for an hour is simple exploiting your grief.

Liverbird77 · 09/06/2021 16:33

£100 is an awful lot to charge.
You could try attending a spiritualist church, although you may not be given a message.
I hope you find what you're looking for.

user1471447924 · 09/06/2021 16:35

There’s no such thing. Spend your money on bereavement counseling instead.

OldTinHat · 09/06/2021 16:37

I'm so very sorry for your loss @sally. I am a bit woo and have had readings from psychics but only one hit the spot down to my sandal breaking on the school run that morning and DS2 collecting rubber bands that were dropped by the postman.

Can I gently suggest that you cancel your appointment and use that money for something that your nan and mum would like you to enjoy? Flowers or a massage or just something for you. Your nan and your mum will make themselves known, you'll know when they do. They haven't left you, they're still right with you and by your side. Don't spend money when you don't need to. They wouldn't want that. Just look out for little signs, they haven't left you.

Viviennemary · 09/06/2021 16:40

I dont think any of the ones who say they commune with the dead are genuine. Its taking advantage of people's grief. The foretellers of thd future now there might be something in that. Like the gift of second sight. Cancel the appointment. She is a charlatan.

PanamaPattie · 09/06/2021 16:42

I can tell you this for nothing. Your loved ones are always with you in your memories.

fantastaballs · 09/06/2021 16:52

I don't believe that people can see the future but there have been some very odd interactions with them.

My sister paid for me to go and see one as part of a group. This was before social media to hold, maybe 2003. He was a really old guy with a pompadour style hairstyle and his flat was like something out of a time warp. He chatted about all sorts of stuff but said that he saw a career change in my future, something to do with fashion. But if I really wanted to follow my heart then I should.... and I would be able to see a flat mountain from my kitchen window.

What was totally bonkers is that just the day before I went to see him I had ordered a brand new sewing machine as I had been diagnosed with PND and had been told to start a new hobby. Also ordered several simple clothing patterns and fabric. And at the time I was being head hunted by a company from South Africa and the office they wanted me to go work in was in cause town. It wasn't rain related but I really really wanted to go and Do it and live in SA. But I had a break down a month later and that got shelved. I hadn't told anybody , not even my sister, about the job or the new hobby. No idea how he managed to guess those two things, but the rest of it was total shit.

DeclineandFall · 09/06/2021 17:26

Please dont go. My lovely neighbour lost her husband suddenly and she spent thousands being conned by a pyschic and their kind of spiritualist church. It was v distressing for her grown up children

disconnected101 · 09/06/2021 18:33

How to tell if a psychic medium is genuine?
They won't charge you. Not £100, nor a penny. A person like that may genuinely mean well. They still won't be able to communicate with your deceased loved ones.

HurryUpBetelgeuse · 09/06/2021 18:47

I'm so sorry for your losses, op.
I felt as though I had to sit on my hands after my mum died so as NOT to visit a psychic, and they were "only" charging around £35.
Can you cancel?
Charging £100 is extortionate vulture territory.

As previous posters suggested, try a spiritualist church instead. I've only been twice, small donation for the collection, no personal message, but a peaceful experience.if you do go to a spiritualist church, I suggest sitting at the front so the rest of the audience/congregation can't turn round and look at you!

megletthesecond · 09/06/2021 18:53

Sorry, but none are.

I saw Derren Brown "read people's minds" once. He'd picked two of the audience I went to school with, have open facebook profiles and aren't the most discerning of people. He probably had an assistant grill them in the foyer.

Liverbird77 · 09/06/2021 19:03

@fantastaballs it wasn't in Southport, was it?

fantastaballs · 09/06/2021 19:06

@liverbird77. Yes it was!!

Roselilly36 · 09/06/2021 19:07

That is way too much money OP, I have had a few readings over the years at my local spiritualist church, I have found them to be helpful. I know lots of people think it’s nonsense, but I do believe.

Liverbird77 · 09/06/2021 19:10

@fantastaballs I bet it was Leon! I could recognise that description anywhere! I think he has passed away now, sadly.

DoingItMyself · 09/06/2021 19:12

OP, cancel. Those people are after your money.

If there is anyone willing or able to communicate from the other side, they won't need payment. Why not go direct? Sit quietly somewhere and think about your family members. You'll feel them close. Tell them what you want them to know. Wait, peacefully.

I think you'll feel better. You might get a message, you might not. But you will know you have made yourself available.

Then you can go and spend the £100 on something you want.

ajandjjmum · 09/06/2021 19:23

A number of years ago I had an appointment with a clairvoyant, and she had to cancel because something unexpected came up. Genuine story!

Triphazards · 09/06/2021 21:50

One of the unfortunate symptoms of death is not speaking any more, even to Madame Zaza.

stinkywinky · 09/06/2021 22:08

Several years ago, my lovely Mum went to a medium after the very sudden and unexpected death of her Mum.

The medium was soon chatting happily to family spirits (several of whom couldn't speak English when alive but had apparently picked it up in the spirit world) and she managed to find out that Mum was on her second marriage. She wanted to reassure Mum that, according to the spirits, her husband loved me like his own daughter.

I am his own daughter.

Many of these people just trust to luck and the willingness of the person to believe them.
