Where shall we go?

Holiday abroad is postponed to next year, obvs. We have a week in a caravan booked in July but as the kids don't go back til 7th September I'm looking at a couple of nights somewhere at the end of August or beginning September. Our criteria would be:

  • we live in the North East so not too far for a couple of nights- open to driving or train tho
  • we love Northumberland snd go often so looking for something different
  • maybe a city break? But with plenty for 4 and 8yo to do
  • we have NT membership so near a site would be good
  • not looking for luxury just change of scenery
All ideas welcome! Thanks Smile

I’d head up to Scotland, because it won’t be so crowded as the Scottish schools will have gone back by the end of August. You can use your NT card in Scotland too.
Culzean Castle and Robert Burns’ birthplace museum are two of the best NT properties for kids in Scotland and they’re only 8 miles apart in South Ayrshire, which is just over 3 hours from Newcastle.
Culzean Castle has an amazing adventure playground with sandpits, rope swings, a pirate ship and wooden castle walls. There’s also Wild Woodland which is basically a treetop attraction spread over an acre of the country park. At the RB birthplace museum, there’s a mini Burns Cottage, zip wire, roundabout, climbing wall etc...

Maybe Chester?
Close to lots of lovely countryside in Cheshire and North Wales.
It’s a beautiful city and you can easily get the train to Liverpool or Manchester if you wanted a day trip.
There is loads round that area for kids to do including Chester Zoo which is a fab day out.
