Wouldn't it be nice to have a quiet day

A bit like earth day, but a day without the convoys of motorbikes going past my house, no neighbour's yappy dog driving me insane, music off in shops, no one blasting (usually bad) music from their cars, no building noise, no garden tools. I know that this won't ever happen, but what bliss it would be!

I have this at the moment, despite living in the middle of a city -- they're doing something to the water mains on our street, so it's closed for weeks to come, and because of the terrain (we're on a very steep slope sloping down to a river with a cliff at the back of the house), there aren't any other roads nearby. It's silent and nice.

Perils of working from home innit. Offices are designed to keep noise out and often (in the provinces) are on office suite complexes where there's nothing else around apart from other offices.

Maybe you could ask about going back to yours? There will be people in there keeping things ticking over but likely not many of them.

dudsville · 09/06/2021 10:46

I would love that! Minus the neighbours yappy dog, I'd be OK with dogs, birds, people chatting, etc., but it would be wonderful to have a day where all across the 🌎 shops shut, traffic stopped, even ambulances wouldn't have to use sirens because the roads would be clear. What bliss.

When I feel like this, I pack a bag and head off to a park ( whatever the weather). We have such beautiful parks and the ones near me, I think, are quite under used.
I love silence ; it's why 5am is my favourite time of the day.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2021 10:49

fat chance.
my house is full of people - by choice and I love them - but oh to be alone for a bit, without the constant noise and interruptions...

and yeah, stop the building work noise and tree cutting noise and lawn mowing noise and all the noise!
I have hyperacusis. noise pollution exhausts me

I'm very lucky. We bought a house at the end of a cul de sac, and a lot of the time all I can hear is birds singing. We have no houses at the end of the garden as we back on to a road, but it's inside the estate and not busy at all. I do count my blessings!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 09/06/2021 11:04

interestingly traffic noise doesn't bother me as much.
we are right next to a busy road but have thick, tall hedges all around the garden which makes passing cars sound like crashing sea waves.

@soreenqueen21

Decent noise cancelling headphones can provide all that.
I'm not allowed to use them. or earplugs. or anything. it's crap

Working from home suits me better as otherwise I have a 3 1/2 hour round trip on public transport which is far more anxiety inducing. I am over sensitive to noise due to autism

I use ear plugs, I just want a day without them!

All I can hear right now is birdsong. I live on the edge of a small town and it's usually just as peaceful. Bliss.

SunshineSum · 09/06/2021 12:07

Well if it suits you better on balance then stay at home.

But that's why it's noisy.

Pewpew · 09/06/2021 12:09

Would the birds be switched off too?Wink

Meruem · 09/06/2021 13:00

They’re digging up the road outside my house. Something to do with broadband. They seem to have been working on the same spot for 3 days and who knows how long it will continue. I can’t think or do anything it’s so noisy. Usually my street is blissfully quite.

Mabelface · 09/06/2021 13:01

It's noisy everywhere for me. This is meant to be lighthearted. @Pewpew, the birds can stay Grin
