Anyone following Dianne Buswell and her 14 day quarantine in a hotel in Australia? She's 4 days in...

For the 'never heard of her' crew she's a dancer on Strictly and the other half of Joe Sugg. Desperate to visit her family in Perth-Joe wasn't allowed to go as not an Australian citizen.

I am finding it fascinating. She's in one room with no opening windows 24/7. 3 meals a day delivered in a paper bag (door is knocked, wait 5 minutes then open and collect).

She's had an exercise bike delivered, and seems to be filling the time, but it's very weird to see. I would definitely struggle especially the no fresh air thing.

The closed windows seems so cruel. From what i've seen she's quite high up so I really don't understand why she isn't allowed fresh air.

She's on the tenth floor, no opening windows and they are filthy on the outside.

I would really struggle with no fresh air for 14 days. Sad

The tennis players who quarantined a few months back showed themselves running round the room, playing tennis against the wall and bed - also another former Strictly dancer Natalie Lowe spent time with her husband and her baby in quarantine. Day 3 seems to be the day they lose it a bit (not surprising really!) and they've still got at least a week to go.

The tennis players food looked terrible at the start and one filmed a mouse in her room. I think I'd have been out of the room at that point!

Her brother delivers things to the hotel but someone brings them up to her.
I will be so happy for her when she gets to see her family.

Friends of ours have just completed their 10 day quarantine in Oz and were allowed out for exercise and fresh air daily. They say that while it wasn't an ideal experience it was one they knew they would have to face before being allowed into the country so they didn't moan about it

She says it's the middle of winter there although it looks nice. I am assuming she can control the room temperature, and there's air con but, yes I need fresh air.

I wonder why hers is 14 days and she can't go out at all? I think if |I could go out for fresh air and exercise I wouldn't moan about it either.

TBF DB isn't moaning about it, I would be. Grin She accepts she has to do it or she can't see her family.

It really is. I mean I'm no huge fan and find her and JS a smidge irritating, but I am now looking forward to seeing what she has in the paper bag. Blush And all the broken kettles outside the door. Grin

That's why Australia has so few cases. There was a story that Infections were transmitted from two lots of quarantine opening hotel doors at the same time. They lock down if two cases are detected. We continue to fuck around.

I bet the tennis players are popular with the people in adjacent rooms.

Their neighbours would be all 'I could have coped with it fine, but was driven insane by the person in the next room whacking a tennis ball, grunting and thundering around'.

Dianne wanted a treadmill but that wasn't allowed as it would be too noisy for the other residents who she got a bike instead.

It's the same here in NZ. When we say stay in your room, that's what we mean. My partner just did 14 days and was a little stir crazy by the end. He was allowed out to walk around the car park once or twice a day after his 4 day test but apart from that, one room, no opening windows, boxed meals, plastic forks etc.
It was like a luxury solitary confinement. Even in prison you are allowed to socialize. BUT...he did his time because that's what you have to do if you want to come to NZ and be wandering around, socializing, shopping, going to events etc.

It’s always 14 days. And whether you get fresh air depends on the state. Yes it’s brutal but this is why we are in the position we are

I totally get why it's necessary, and I get why DB is doing it as she's so desperate to see her family.

I would do it too but would struggle massively.

I have family who've done UK to Australia and had 14 days quarantine in Brisbane and Australia to NZ and had 14 days quarantine in Auckland. Both recognised the importance of not bringing infection into the country, both were able to have outside exercise once a day, both were in hotel rooms with no opening windows, both were in quarantine in December/January, so hot weather.

Did they enjoy the experience - No. Did they make a fuss - No. They were both very grateful to be able to spend time with terminally ill family members.

One of them posted her quarantine food daily on family instagram - tbh, it looked pretty good! Both passed the time reading, working, watching trashy TV, facetiming with family, doing yoga, stretching meals out as long as possible.

I would do it if it meant being mask free and being able to be 'normal'.

The end goal would be so worth it.

Now I am not sure I could cope with 14 days in a hotel room with my family any better than alone, with no fresh air. But fortunately i don't have to.

I don't think anyone actually doing it would be complaining though, it's a means to an end and unavoidable. But quite stressful.

Being able to see family is so worth it. I would imagine some can't afford the 2 week hotel stay in order to be able to. Sad
