I urgently need a new laptop. At the same time, I have been thinking or pondering about getting a second screen (just the screen) and possibly a second device (tablet?) for document management.

Given I have no time to research the laptop issue, is there somewhere you can go and get real advice about this sort of thing? There used to be a great Sony shop near us with people who really knew how to help you choose, but Sony have pulled out of this market. On the other hand I have never had a convincing conversation with anyone in PC World.

try your local facebook groups to find someone local and independent.

Do you have a John Lewis near you? They really helped my mum out a couple of years ago and steered her away from something that was really too powerful/expensive for what she needed.

Yes, we do have JL. I might give that a try, it’s nearby.

John Lewis completely bossed it, extending to helping me order the correct cable to link the laptop to the screen from Amazon while I was there because they didn’t have one.
