My son is talking to a random online

I’ve discovered tonight that my son (11) has been messaging a guy online.

They have been talking about gaming/what they’ve been up to in the day - but this guy has also said he’s horny and called my son a pussy.

I’ve done some digging with his username and it looks like he’s 17+ as he’s just passed his driving lesson and brought a car.

This is not ok is it?

I have reported it to 101, taken his phone from him, had a huge chat with him with his dad present, and messaged his teacher.

I’ve never dealt with anything like this before, why do I feel like I’ve overreacted?

My son won’t tell me where he met this guy, and how he came to obtain his details. None of his friends seem to know him as I’ve been right through his messages.

I feel like utter utter shit for not monitoring this....the lowest of the fucking low

This. But do make sure that they don't just switch to some other app and keep on communicating. TBH I'd not let him on the internet without supervision.
