Where can I sell my gold jewellery?

Inspired by the thread about heirloom gifts - I have a number of gold items that were my mum's - chains, a bangle, one of those gate bracelets, a sovereign on a chain. I will never wear them and they don't hold sentimental value either so I want to sell them. Where and how is the best way to do this, any thoughts?

Jewellers and cash for gold places only give scrap value. I stupidly sold a bracelet, jeweller weighed it and gave me £30. A month later it was in his window for £400!
You are better off weighing then listing on eBay so you get above scrap value. I’m always amazed at the prices jewellery go for on there. Have a look and watch a few similar items to see what the go for.

I took a big bag of gold jewellery to a jeweller and swapped it for a ring which the jeweller custom made.
If you wear gold, why not have it melted down into something you would wear?
