End of term presents

The psa class rep has set up a collection for the kids teacher's end of term gift. Ok lovely.

I just checked and there's only one donation so far of £40.

Now, I really don't mind chipping in. And I think it's a nice thing to do. But surely the point of chipping in to a present for a teacher in a class of 30 kids is that it shouldn't need to be so expensive?!

We are in a fairly mixed area. So not everyone is well off.

Just seems a bit ott to me to set the bar so high. Am I being unfair???

Far far too much from one person - and I'm a teacher!

Any chance they have collected cash from a few people and submitted it as one

My son is a teacher and the gifts he prizes are the handwritten cards from the children.

Are you sure the £40 is just from one person? I used to donate a fiver to group collections like this. Unless my maths is wrong, 30 x £40 would be mean a gift worth £1200 which is truly ridiculous!!?
