No wonder they can' get any volunteers

I volunteer at my local hosp.

it took nearly a year to jump through all the required "hoops".

I know there is a process but taking a year was just ridiculous.

My son has tried twice to volunteer but , after having to drive the process totally from our side and getting no where , he gave up.

I have to submit two corvid test results a week, I have no problem with that.

The A4 sheet of instructions details the web site to access , it is , I kid you not , this !! (digits changed for privacy)

forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=OCEDOJ0pukG3ftaBcJopBbuDKSllwhRFjPcd56TPp_tUNVM4U0FQTDBL89LPOTVGty4wSkFXM0NURSQl12Wcu

Considering many of the volunteers are over 70 , how someone could think this was in any way suitable is beyond me.

The link says
‘This form doesn’t exist’

I don’t suppose it’s got anything to do with this COVID thing that’s been doing the rounds is it?

I volunteer in a place where they have decided the risk to the service users of extra people in the building means they have stopped all volunteers coming in. They have halted the recruitment of new volunteers. They have also cut down on permanent staff working in the building, and restricted access to certain parts of the building for other staff and visitors. Would love to be back working there, but fully understand why they are doing what they are doing.

Staff there have to have tests every time they come in to work, they also have strict hygiene rules including changing clothing and shoes.

It’s what it is.

The link doesn't work because I altered it so it's not "real",

It took a year for my volunteer post to be sorted ,this was 2019 so before covid.

I don't mind the tests, or registering the results, but trying to type in the link given was , to put it mildly, frustrating !

two corvid test results

To see if you've got bird flu?

"To see if you've got bird flu?"

Yep, only the most intelligent of the flu !

I know it is frustrating, but the truth is (in my experience) the resources needed to use volunteers appropriately in a hospital exceed the value of the volunteers' contribution. Fundraising is of greater value to the organisation tbh, and that is why your Head of Fundraising is well paid whereas whoever wrangles volunteers is not (and they take a lot of wrangling).

dizzycatdance2 · 08/06/2021 23:04

Yeah, that's a good point, id much rather be a volunteer than have to wrangle them
