What items are in short supply this summer ?

Yesterday a news item popped up on my screen about items being in short supply this summer , when I went to look at it later I couldn't find it

I know cement and decking boards are in short supply and I cannot find the simple straight sided beer glasses / tumblers anywhere ( down to two having broken a few ) and a friend said a while ago cat food was in short supply

I wondered what else was mentioned in the article and what else anyone has found difficult to get hold of this summer ?

Definitely bikes and related gear, I read an article that said they think it’ll take until 2023 to clear backlogs and have normal stock levels.

We ordered some garden furniture in February, it was delivered this morning 😱

ArgyleIsle · 08/06/2021 21:12

Bikes were in short supply last year too due to Brexit and the supply of materials.

Common sense

😂 😂

Children’s bikes - lots of the big brands have been hit by Brexit/Covid supply chain disruptions, and are out of stock. Secondhand ones are going like hotcakes on eBay, especially brands like Islabikes/Frog. I’ve really struggled to get DD’s next bike as she’s shot up in lockdown!

Gas bottles for BBQs, no new contracts being done so unless you have a bottle already....

I work for Argos and our stockroom has never been this empty during summer ! Patio furniture , sun loungers have mostly all gone within days of coming into stock , pools are selling fast aswell . Usually we have the zero gravity sun loungers by the pallets , nope not this year . Mowers , garden boxes . Everything came in really late this year and bbqs have hardly come in at all yet . Trampolines are in short supply aswell and as for ps5s they are like gold dust ! We had 150 into store a few weeks ago , blinked and gone ! We are due another delivery of them but not as many this time .
Summer will be over and we will start getting the stock coming in !

Kids bikes, plaster, gravel boards, tents, bbq’s and garden furniture.
DH is a plumber and it’s getting harder to source some materials.

SunflowerOwl · 08/06/2021 21:30

Sun loungers!

A couple of months ago big boxes of cat food, prinnter ink,now it's my favourite pepperoni slice! I've found odd things that i don't buy often a bit scarce. Have noticed the local supermarket eithed has blinds pulled down or alchole in the space.

Weetabix.
The workers at two of the factories have planned a number of strikes in June, July and August.

Nekoness · 08/06/2021 22:29

Thanks for trying @ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba but what they have don’t even come up to my children’s waist, depth wise. The few models we were after are all sold out til 2022 already

Returnoftheowl · 08/06/2021 22:31

Anything for the garden... furniture, hot tubs, BBQs all seem to be in short supply.

sure.

I had a feeling it's not the one you'd need - you would've found it by yourself!😁

Running shoes

We had a builder round this morning and he said that roof tiles are taking 30 weeks to be delivered!

Whiskers sachet cat food has been hard to find for a couple of months.

I went to Tesco again today having checked Friday and nothing.

Bloody thing won't eat anything else.

seepingweeping · 09/06/2021 07:56

Play sand for sandpits but that was a month ago, not sure if that's sorted itself out yet.

According to news, hospitality staff. Huge amount of adverts with jobs unfilled. Usually filled by EU workers which due to Brexit are not here.

I would also say the same, from experience about school staff. No one wants to be a teaching assistant or support staff (kitchen, caretaking, cleaning). TA's is COVID related, safety and how poorly schools have been treat by the government. Support staff lacking due to safety and Brexit. We always had a significant number of EU workers who are not here any longer.
