Is there any way to find out who sent me money?

Received some money today Into my NatWest account, only info was “Happy Birthday” in the description but no name and no account details

It is my birthday so it’s unlikely to be a mistake but I of course would like to thank
Whoever it was!

Rang the bank who said they can’t tell me due to gdpr

Aside from ringing the 4 people it could be, is there any other way to find out?

Doesn’t it say their name? When I get money transferred It says the persons name next to it?

Get a mini statement, should say on there

If you look at your actual statement, it should say.

You may find a name appears next to the transaction tomorrow - my online bank doesn't show details on the day the money comes in.

Well yes, I can see it's a bit annoying if you don't know who sent it, but ffs there are worse problems than someone putting money into your bank account!

I can’t see where the op said it was annoying? It’s pretty normal to want to know where a gift came from?! It would bug me not knowing because I wouldn’t want to spend it till I know where it came from but that’s because people don’t usually send me money so I would be a bit taken back and wouldn’t have an idea of where it came from! No one is complaining 🙄

Log onto internet banking on website rather than using the app - that’s likely to show more info.

Narrow it down to who has your banking information

If they've sent it via the bank then presumably they have your account details, have you thought of everyone who you may have given details to for some reason?

Well due to the grammar error in the birthday message check your birthday fb messages or text messages and see who makes the same mistake (I hope your a LOD fan now I’ve written this). Happy birthday

With my NatWest if you give it a day or 2 to properly clear it changes to the senders name rather than a reference. So my mother sent me money back for her shopping with the defence ‘shopping’ on Saturday, yesterday it changed to her name

Unfortunately narrowing down who I’ve given my account details to won’t work- I’m a nanny and it’s almost certainly 1 of 3 possible families who always send me a gift and all who have my details!

And website has the same info but I’m pleased to hear from a PP it may come through tomorrow!

I’d be hugely embarrassed to not send proper thanks!

Hopefully the reference will come through tomorrow, but if all 3 families always get you a gift, wait and see which one doesn't - by process of elimination the money should be from them.

Also, I suspect they will tell you. A lot of people don't check their bank account regularly. They will want you to be aware that it's there and that it's a gift, so it doesn't just get swallowed up by bills / regular spending.

Solved it! It was one of my old bosses she messaged to say happy Birthday and asked if I’d received it
