Decent breakdown cover (not 10 hours !)

RAC left me and my dc waiting ten hours for a recovery when stranded in an isolated place last week. Apparently this is fine.

I didn't actually wait ten hours, I sorted out a garage to help us. Then couldn't get through to the RAC to cancel, when the call came from the Breakdown guy it was ten hours on!!

A bit of research shows my experience is not uncommon with the RAC.

I have complained and got a very ungracious partial refund.

So now I want to purchase a decent cover. I've seen autoaid and green flag mentioned on here before ? Worth a shot?

I use autoaid, have done for 10 years. They send a local company, whichever is closest/available and I've never had to wait too long, apart from once in the middle of Hastings at night when they said 3 hours so I got my neighbour to rescue me. If I'd had a child, I'd have been higher priority though. 10 hours is insane.
Autoaid used to make you pay and then get reimbursement, but now it's just like RAC etc, they sort it all out. DH is also covered automatically and so is anyone who's car I'm in, I think. It's good value.

To be honest if you look at online reviews people have has poor experiences with all of them. I've been in RAC, AA and green flag and never had a problem.

What's got my goat is that they don't even accept it as a failing! It's hardly emergency cover if it takes ten hours!!

I always found the big companies to be the same. Bad as each other. Been with auto aid for a few years now. Haven't yet had to use them but they're a fraction of the cost for the same cover, and it can't get worse than 10 hours in my opinion!

Anyone tried LV Britannia Rescue. The insurers were fantastic when I had an accident so wondering if breakdown is good ?

Green Flag are very good, the call handlers are really helpful. Last time I broke down (mid afternoon on a bank holiday weekend) they were with me in about 90 mins - which I didn't think was too bad, especially as I was parked up in a side road and it was lovely weather (so I just sat in the sun!).

Prior to that when our car broke down with my son driving (weekday morning) they got to him in about 40 mins.

I've been recovered by Green Flag and it was around 90 mins.

I am with green flag and waited 35 minutes.

They asked if I had anyone vulnerable with me and I said my ds (physical disability and autistic) and they came as a priority rescue!
