Where would you quarantine in UK if you were an expat visiting from abroad?

I haven't seen my UK family in a year, my kids are growing older, and so are their grandparents and great-grandparents, we are losing precious time Sad So even though I live in an amber list country, I am desperate to come and visit this summer, and I'm trying to think of solutions to the quarantine issue.

With two kids age 4 and 7, I don't think a hotel room is ideal. I don't think we can quarantine at my parents house as they both work and couldn't stay at home with us for the duration. I thought maybe an Airbnb? I feel a little uneasy about that though, as you can't easily cancel and travel plans are obviously so uncertain these days .

Any ideas? WWYD?

I have similar age children who have been through quite enough time “self isolating” and locked down. I’d have to be permanently emigrating or someone’s life would have to depend on my visit before I voluntarily quarantined them for ten days at home, much less in rented accommodation in a foreign country. They love their grandparents but it just wouldn’t be worth it. I’d just wait, like vast numbers of other people, or possibly come by myself.

Holiday cottage rental with big outdoor garden. Somewhere with good transport links to where you eventually want to be after the quarantine. That would be my only geographical concern considering you wouldnt be allowed to go anywhere, so its largely pointless being in a holiday or beauty spot. Im not sure thats even allowed though?

For the record, your parents don’t have to stay in the house if you quarantine with them, although it does make me wonder what the point is tbh. You’re meant to stay separate from them as far as possible. If they’ve got a nice big house then it might be the best practical option.

Can you afford to take the day 5 test to release?
