How long do you need to wake yourself up in the morning

How long do you need to just lay in bed before you feel ready to get on with the day? I've been trying to get my sleeping pattern back to normal and for the last few days been waking up at 9:30-10 instead of say 12-2pm and I also have found me needing say 20-30mins instead of say 1hr+ hours and I'm just wondering what other people have.

I know I'll get questions but I love at home with mental health issues and am a carer for my parents who are disabled and we had all adopted this crazy sleep schedule for years and are slowly rectifying it.

I wish I had the option to waken myself up a bit before getting out of bed. As soon as little one is up and I hear her squirm from the next room that’s my que to get up and start my day!

On a work day I wake at 6 and am out of bed by 6.15 at the very latest... Normally 5 minutes tops.
My husband and eldest child are up and wide awake immediately... My youngest is more like me...
I need the time to wake properly not to face the day though.... Have you thought about trying waking and just getting up.. Not thinking about it... Just getting up and hitting the shower?

I'm up as soon as I'm awake although if I'm not working or have woken up early I'll chill on my phone.

It takes me a long time, ideally an hour but I really do need about 30 mins to come round. I do have some chronic health conditions that don't help.

FrustratedTeddyLamp · 06/06/2021 22:06

I have thought of it and plan to try it a lot but then I wake up and then I'll have neck pain or just a general malaise. I do think it could be mental as the last few days mentally I've been comparatively more up and at 'em like when coming downstairs being all systems go at a shorter time and more switched on and also reading more instead of distracting myself with electronics.

But I've heard the term morning people and also assumed others before also need to wake up a long time before doing anything.

Work day my alarm goes off at 6-15
I get up straight away..have a wash and go down for a coffee in the kitchen ...watch the news check emails by 6-50 I'm back upstairs getting dressed..teeth hair ...I wear very little if any makeup and I'm out the house by 7-10 at the latest .
Weekends I tend to naturally wake anywhere between 7 and 8 am ...
Go down stairs and have a coffee in sitting room and take my time depending on my plans

cushioncovers · 06/06/2021 22:19

Alarm goes off at 6am I get up at 6.30am after alarm going off every ten minutes I find it very hard to wake up when I'm woken up by an alarm clock

SpaceRaiders · 06/06/2021 22:28

I’m definitely not a morning person, I need at least an hour to fully wake up. Usually it’ll be 20 minutes on a weekday before Dd 7 starts chirping in my ear about something obscure.

Cocopogo · 06/06/2021 22:29

On MN most people have DC and once you have them you realise you don’t need as much sleep as you thought you did. I wake up at 7 and get a brew for half hour before I get ready to leave at 8

Northernsoullover · 06/06/2021 22:45

I like to wake up at 6 so I can chill for an hour before getting out of bed. I could achieve so much more if I actually got out of bed Blush

BillyIsMyBunny · 06/06/2021 22:45

I would say it usually takes me a minimum of half an hour but preferably an hour to wake and get up. I have to set several alarms every 5-10 minutes in the morning, there is no way I would respond to only 1 or 2 alarms I would just turn them off and go back to sleep. If I don’t actually have to get up then even after I’m fully awake I like to stay in bed for at least another half an hour to an hour. I am really not much of a morning person!!

Rfjkf · 06/06/2021 22:48

I get up straight away, but it takes me about an hour of drinking tea to feel ready for the day

CarrieMoonbeams · 06/06/2021 22:49

I get up as soon as the alarm goes off at 7am. Ping, wide awake!

ElizabethTudor · 06/06/2021 22:50

I need two alarms half-an-hour apart with the radio on, to come around before I can get up.
I’m shit at getting up.

HelenHywater · 06/06/2021 22:51

2 coffees and 45 mins-1 hour in bed. I can do it in 30 mins if I have to (with one coffee). I wake up early though - in 7 hours if I don't put my alarm on.

Pyewackect · 06/06/2021 22:56

I have to be out the door before 6 so I'm awake and out of bed PDQ. In the shower, get dressed and jump into my jam-jar, 20 minutes. I'll grab coffee and toast just before hand-over.
