To ask if many abusive and violent fathers who initiate court proceedings actually come to fruition?

My abuser ex gave it the biggun and said he'd fight me all the way for DD and said "see you in court" like some pathetic American hot shot.
Now it looks like he's about to back out now he's realised the cost and what he's up against... Is this common for abusive men? Did your ex ever not turn up to court?

3 of my friends/family have been in a similar situation.

Only one gave up when he realised it wasn’t going his way and he couldn’t control my friend or their child anymore (13 years old).

The other 2 saw it through, but the kids were younger and still adored their dad.
