High maintenance but usually happy. We've had issues with eczema but in the last week both he and baby DD have been bad. Neither have dairy or soya. DD is clawing at her neck but that's it. DS has what is quite a rashy look all over his top half. He doesnt seem to be itching it but he is desperately unhappy asleep. He has just woken from his nap screaming- he clearly doesnt want to be awake yet. Last night he was inconsolable and ended up sleeping with me (he had never done that before) but still didnt really sleep.

I dont know how to help him. I've had about 2 hours sleep and I cant cope with the tears anymore

I would book an appointment for them both OP. If you can afford it go to a private dermatlogist.

Whataroyalannoyance · 06/06/2021 15:21

Have you changed any washing powder, or has the ingredients changed? Have you given them some antihistamines?

UnbeatenMum · 06/06/2021 15:24

Is it the heat? Or suncream? Otherwise could it be viral? My DS had a viral rash when he had a cold earlier this year, it went away after about a week.

Piriton? It’s been quite warm the sweat can make itchy eczema quite uncomfortable if that’s what it is but I’d get him seen by a doctor they might prescribe some creams to help. Cool water often helped my sons eczema when It was bad. You can also give calpol if you feel he’s in pain, but I would def get dr to check him over. Also don’t dry his clothes outside, check no ingredients to foods you eat have changed or have you eaten something new or a different brand?

SinkGirl · 06/06/2021 15:31

Oh bless you. My twins have allergies and eczema and until they were under control it was brutal.

I agree with giving piriton a go. I also managed to get a bottle of Phenergan elixir which I keep for emergencies (eg chicken pox which was hell) as it’s stronger and helps them sleep more - can be bought from pharmacies over the counter.

Soothing oat bath can help too - Aveeno make sachets but you can just chuck oats in a sock and tie it to the tap as you run the Bath.

There’s also an anti-scratch cream that’s amazing and much better than all the other things I tried - called Eurax.

Obviously if it’s a non blanching rash or any other symptoms get checked out but if it looks like hives then I would try these things.

SleepingStandingUp · 06/06/2021 15:33

Probably viral, she could be clawing because it's thickly or sore inside?

Check it blanches, and make an app with go tomorrow. If it can't wait, call ooo

OhToBeASeahorse · 06/06/2021 15:37

Thank you. It does blanche and has gone down. Gave him piriton last night but didnt make much difference.

Found a fan in the loft so will put that for him tonight. I'm soaking them on emollient but it doesn't seem to be helping

I did wonder if DD has a sore throat and that's why she is clawing at it.

Could it be Strep throat/scarlet fever?
Maybe your dd has a sore throat and that is why she is at her neck. Strep throat also causes Scarlet Fever in some people and you can get a dry, sand paper, fine rash on the torso with it. Might be worth getting them looked at by the GP

SleepingStandingUp · 06/06/2021 15:39

Have you tried calpol for DD?

oioisaveloy108 · 06/06/2021 15:39

Another here where until we found a suitable eczema cream, life was hell!

We tried EVERY OTC cream and steroid, nothing worked. Calendula cream was our lifesaver

OhToBeASeahorse · 06/06/2021 15:40

Bought some eurax, thank you @SinkGirl

@Raffertythe2nd that's really helpful thank you

Just looked up scarlet fever rash, some of the pics looked similar to DS

OhToBeASeahorse · 06/06/2021 15:45

No other symptoms though, I dont think. I've had a terrible cough but had a covid test and it was negative

TheMotherlode · 06/06/2021 15:59

I think you need to take them to the GP or Pharmacist to see about the rash as it could be so many things.

Are they cool enough in bed? I’ve just been using thin cotton PJs and a light blanket for DD on the really hot nights.

Thecatsawinner · 06/06/2021 16:59

Keep up piriton and calpol. Check temperature etc

OhToBeASeahorse · 06/06/2021 18:56

No temp but I am.apparently incapable of taking his temperature accurately.

Rash has really really gone down. But I'm so nervous about getting him settled. Currently trying to get DD to sleep with a fan almost in her cot...
