How do you eat one of these?!

Without getting cream and icing everywhere?!

I tend to grab and bite as even slicing it into bite size pieces squashes it too much!

Is there a way of eating it that I’m missing, that won’t leave me looking like a toddler at a tea party?!

Flip it on its side and use a fork. Still messy but it doesn’t squash everywhere

4PawsGood · 05/06/2021 19:05

Put it on its side and then use a sharp knife.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 05/06/2021 19:06

We have a patented technique for eating these - you have to nibble from halfway up the custard into the top piece of pastry, then eat the corresponding bit at the bottom.

I want one now!

Disfordarkchocolate · 05/06/2021 19:09

On your own.

FadedRed · 05/06/2021 19:10

As pp’s said, you put it on its side and then cut it into bite size pieces with a sharp knife.
Or, if you are alone and can forget ‘naice table manners’, you cut off the iced top layer of the cake, leaving a small layer of cream on it and eat that first. Then you eat the remainder of the cake.

usernotfound0000 · 05/06/2021 19:11

Eat the top first then the custard bit after, still messy but no oozing.

Bumzoo · 05/06/2021 19:12

I pull through top off and eat that first then eat the creamy bottom.

Cam2020 · 05/06/2021 19:12

You don't! It collapses, the cream goes everywhere and you lick it off your fingers!

MagicSummer · 05/06/2021 19:13

Spear it forcibly with a fork in the middle to break into two pieces. It will then be easier to eat smaller pieces.

MissGendered · 05/06/2021 19:14

In one bite.

colouringcrayons · 05/06/2021 19:16

Lay on its side, then slice the custard/cream in half. Then you flip the iced side over so the icing is on the bottom.

You now have two pastry sheets with a custard topping, can eat with cutlery (I like to slice into bite sized pieces) or pick up.

Always eat the iced half last because that's the best bit.

Mistymountain · 05/06/2021 19:17

I pull the bottom off eat that, and then eat the top with the cream

cupcakedaisy · 05/06/2021 19:19

I take out the cream (don't really like it), stick it back together and then eat Grin delicious!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 05/06/2021 19:21

With a pastry fork.

No, no, no, no, NO! You leave the top bit with icing till last. Only a philistine eats the best bit first Shock

SquirrelFan · 05/06/2021 19:22

Use a laser to cut into bite-sized pieces. Only way the cream doesn't squooosh out the sides.

tonyunclejohnny · 05/06/2021 19:24

Squish it together, lick the filling round the edges as your squishing then eat once it's a size you can easily bite into

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 05/06/2021 19:26

I stuff it in to my mouth whole, as you compress it the cream squirts into your mouth - neatly contained, although sometimes a little may come down your nose!

DotsandCo · 05/06/2021 19:26

This is how I do it 🤣...but only when nobody is within spying distance 😱

Amazing! I nearly started this exact same thread yesterday.

I used to turn them sideways, and cut with a serrated knife into about 5 pieces, to pop whole into my mouth. But recently, they seem more slippery and just go to to a mush.

IEat · 05/06/2021 19:31

In front of people with difficulty, by myself I’d make a mess but ooohhhh lovely

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 19:33

The joy is in the mess. Free yourself of inhibitions and revel in the cream plarping out the sides.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 05/06/2021 19:36

Turn it on its side and eat as normal. No squidging or squishing. DH showed me that one genius

GodolphinHorne · 05/06/2021 19:39

You put it on its side and eat it with a fork...? It never occurred to me to try to cram it into my mouth with my fingers.

I must be more genteel than I thought.
