I haven't been to the theatre in quite a while, even pre-covid, so this may be totally normal and not something worth noting, but wtf is a 'restoration levy' and who actually pays it?? I just tried booking tickets for a musical in London, seats supposedly £20 each but a restoration levy is automatically added bringing the cost of 3 tickets up to nearly £300! I wouldn't have minded paying a bit extra as a 'voluntary' contribution to help with upkeep of the theatre etc, but making it up to 5 x the original price FFS... were they hoping I didn't notice, and who actually pays that? I went right through to the point of putting payment details in, but there was no option to not pay this levy... am I missing something, or is this a really odd way to encourage people back into the theatre after a year of closures?
